They've got the best wild salmon burger and sweet potatoe fries ever. It's also the only "true local" pub around. The servers are very friendly and on top of things. The change in ownership seems to have gone very smoothly. Will keep returning.
By far the best nachos I've ever had. The sweet potato fries were so good with spicy sauce that goes with them. Tons of healthy choices on their menu!! Thursday night jazz was on and it was packed. Lots of people. Lots of fun. It lived up to all the recommendations we were told. We were are in from university for the weekend to visit our families and wanted some local fun. We were told to check out the Black Dog for some great food and music. We were not disappoineted. We will be back in 3 weeks.
We are weekly regulars and love everything about this place!! The servers, the atmosphere, the FOOD is to die for. Lots of vegetarian options. Wine selection is perfect. Keep up the good work. Always a happy place togo to. Jazz was there on Saturday night. What a great experience-again!
For those who have been going to this place for years (as we have), you should know that the menu has changed. Some of the old favourites are still there along with some new dishes. However, the price of things like wings, sandwiches and natchos have increased significantly. For instance, an order of wings for one is now $15 which is pretty steep compared to any other pub I've ever been to. We were going to have a meal but changed our mind when we saw the new menu and opted to share natchos instead. The natchos were $17 which was outrageous for the size of the plate. They were good but there was very little meat (chili) or cheese and we had to ask for extra salsa. The waitress made it seem like an effort and bellowed it out to the kitchen but she brought it to us and didn't charge us extra (which wouldn't have surprised me if she had). Our bill for 2 draft, natchos, tax and tip was $40.
I'm sure we'll go back to The Black Dog as often as ever, but we won't go for pub food because it will be cheaper to order a meal such as chicken tikka instead.
For me and everyone I know, this is the BEST pub in the GTA. Service is excellent, the food is fantastic and the ambiance is great. Im an ex-pat from England and love this place...a true pub. If you want the best, go here.
Oh, and they have a policy about removing baseball caps....It's not a big deal, don't cry about it!
