La Cantina's co-founder and executive chef, Maurizio Grande, was born in 1963 the youngest of four boys. Life was difficult as a youngster, opportunities scarce and a dream brewing.
Beautiful restaurant, food is always great. Great first date place. I used to work there and still get cravings for several menu items. Best Bread ain Town and best Pizza and appetizer menu in town hands down.

This was our first visit to La Cantina. We dined in Vicola 54 section. When we arrived our reservation was not found immediately but the staff did manage to find it and we were seated promptly.
Our Waitress was excellent. Though very busy she found the time to say hi and presented us with the wine list almost immediately after being seated.
She was very knowledgeabel of the menu and very attentive throught out meal.
The medly of bruscetta bread included six pieces of bruscetta of five different types. The portions were large enough to allow us to cut them in two so that we could both taste the different types. Our favourite was the goat cheese and sun dried tomato.
For the main course i had gorgonzola gnocci. The dish was not as tastey as i had imagined and I was wishing that I had requested a larger quantity of ground black pepper. Overall I found the gnocci to be somewhat undercooked and doughy. Not something I would order on any subsquent visit.
My partner had a pasta with a rosa vodka sauce. She rated it very good.
The appetizers of bruscetta and our main course were quite filling and neither of us completely finished our mains.
We shared a Tiramis? for desert and both had coffee. No second cup of coffee was offered.

The atmoshere is very nice though the wine is a bit overpriced. Almost everybody ordered the chef's special, which was a chicken breast stuffed with shrimp and some type of cheese. The way the waitress described it was "to die for" This convinced us to try it, it sounded great. The chicken was very dry, the tails were left on the small shrimp and you had to fish them out and I could not detect any kind of cheese either. It was very tastleless and disappointing. Probably because we were expecting such great things. It would be wise for the waitress not to praise this special too highly.
Our server was way to overwelmed, she was very unprofessional, she made errors in our drink orders and we had to wait for over 1 hour to finally get apps. However once she took our order everthing was on time
