The Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (BARF) diet philosophy was straightforward: in order to ensure a lifetime of optimal health, I had to feed a biologically appropriate raw food diet to our canine and feline carnivores.
Natalie Gore has always been passionate about animals, but when she became the owner of her lovely dog Blu, things started getting interesting. “When I got my dog I was really focused on nutrition and health. I sort of realized that there weren’t that many places in the city that would take care of him.” She wanted a place that gave sound advice about pets and their nutritional needs. “I figured that there would be a need for that and low and behold here we are," Natalie adds. Bailey Blu opened in October 2010, named after her loyal pup of course.
Bailey Blu sells dog and cat accessories but their main focus is nutrition. “We concentrate on a raw food diet for dogs and cats. Basically we want to inform people on how to make good decisions about their pets. It’s a pretty poorly regulated industry, the pet food industry, so we want to let people know how it really works,” says Natalie.
Bailey Blu also prepares its own raw food in their very own provincially inspected facility. “I have a team that I work with, where we grind the meat and do all the things necessary for raw food preparation in that space,” says Natalie. Add to this the fact that all the food they bring in is locally sourced, so they can control which farms they deal with. “Most of our food is hormone free, and we have some organic food as well.”
