Morning is best judged by the quality of its caffeine. At de Mello, the coffee is curated by a rigorous standard, which equates to complex and satisfying flavour. The effervescent streetart that adorns the walls is a comical smirk juxtaposing the seriousness with which the coffee here is prepared. Grab a piece of biscotti and a bottle of cold brew for later in the day, and the morning easily settles itself.
Named after the Portuguese coffee purveyor Francisco de Melo Palheta, this spot is quite possibly one of the coolest cafés in the city, let alone in midtown Toronto. The coffee is great, but what makes the café stand out is the graffiti-style art and decor, which lends an aura of urban ruggedness to the space.
Coffees and lattes and teas, oh my! Found in the Yonge and Eglinton area, de Mello’s is one of the finest coffee houses in the entire city The storefront is done up in funky graffiti with an interior that’s got plenty of rustic steampunk chic, from the metallic overhead lights to the daily specials on the chalkboard. If you’re not terribly coffee-savvy, lean on the staff for advice and you’ll never be disappointed.
