Before going to this restaurant I reviewed what other people had to say about it on here so that I had an idea of what I was going into. First impression was that the restaurant was really classy, expensive and all you can eat. So I knew what to expect going there. When we got there we were seated right away, however we only had the all-you-can eat menu on our table. We had to wait 10 minutes before a waitress even came to our table to talk to us. At that point we had to ask for the other menu so we could decide on which we wanted to order from. When the waitress came back she gave out 2 menus to the 4 of us (even though she brought 4 menus) and then tried to take the all you can eat menu away from us, I had to stop her, being afraid that if we decided to order the all you can eat we would have had to wait another 10 minutes to get the all you can eat menu back. Then she walks away with 2 menus in her hand still. We then had to wait another 5 minutes to ask for 2 more of the regular menus (the ones in her hand that she brought to the table but decided not to hand out but walk away with). Also while waiting for the waitress for 10 minutes originally; I had to switch my chair with another table because it was broken and very uncomfortable to sit it. Wish we could've switched our table as well because it was wobbly and annoying to eat on. So we decided on the all you can eat menu. Looking over the menu it was hard to decide what we wanted because the menu was all the Japanese names without the English description underneath (except for one random item had an English description). Having gone to a lot of sushi restaurants I knew what some of the items were but there was so much stuff on the menu. I think they were going for a classy feel to it and thinking people who know food should know the items but for an all you can eat restaurant you want service to be quick and not have to have the waitress explain every single item on this huge menu to us. (I'm thinking this may be the reason why the service was so slow) I am also wondering now what I may have liked to order that I never got a chance to because I didn't know what it was. The plus side was the Kitchen somewhat had it together because the food was quite excellent and it came out fast. The only problems I had was that some of the items we ordered never came out and the sushi and sashimi had to be order in numbers of 5 or 8 (so random and I couldn't figure out why they had that rule, doesn't make sense and it added another amount of confusion to the ordering process which took more time for the waitress to have to explain). Over all the food was good and it was a good selection (if you could figure out what they had) and the food came out fast. The service from the front of the house staff was horrible and for the amount of money you pay you deserve better. Not sure if they brought over family members from another country to work in their restaurant but for a restaurant that is supposed to be classy and expensive, you can't do that unless they are trained staff that know how to give good customer service or you train them.
JJ's features a regular menu with an optional AYCE (all you can eat) menu as well. For the price, the AYCE is definitely the value choice if you are going to have more than just an entree. The Good: Nice Place, the Thai selection of the AYCE was pretty good. Hot foods where on par with hits and misses in the selection. The Bad: Some of the sauces tasted a little funny. The sushi definitely was not as fresh as the majority of the Japanese AYCE places I have visited. Sashimi must be ordered in combos, i.e. butterfish + snapper + Octopus + salmon. So you don't get to just order 6 pieces of Salmon Sashimi. The Ugly: Service was utterly terrible, wait staff very rude and have a superiority complex. Wait staff was not very helpful with questions I had on the menu and didn't come around too often. Really, the Thai food was good but not authentic, the Japanese food was terrible and not authentic, your better going next door to Regal and have Chinese chefs, cooking really good Chinese food. Below average food and service mixed with price being on the higher end of AYCE Asian cuisine will keep me away from Double JJ.
I had been to JJ Japanese Thai beforehand and was never disappointed. This was my third visit and I was more than pleased. The restaurant was nicely decorated with beautiful table linens, wall decorations, and pillows. The servers were kind and attentive. Our server, whose name was Alina, was so kind and friendly, she asked us if there was anything we needed on a consistent basis and also provided free ice cream for being such great customers! I was pleasantly impressed. The food was amazing, the pad thai was filling and excellent, along with the maki. I would come back here in a heartbeat, no doubt about it!
I came here for my birthday a few months ago and have been back several times since. The food is simply incredible, probably the best Thai food I have even eaten. Contrary to what others are saying, the service is quite good. One waiter in particular is excellent, though I believe he works there only on the weekends. He's always smiling, always helpful in suggesting good menu choices, and is very accommodating. The atmosphere is great as well; comfy yet stylish feel, nice decorating, and overall fun feel to the restaurant. I definitely recommend JJ Japanese Thai to everyone who enjoys Thai food, or for anyone looking for an excellent meal in a great atmosphere.
I went to this restaurant for my birthday for the first time and I thought the food was good. I don’t like Japanese food but the Thai menu was great. The restaurant has very similar Thai food to the Spoon and Fork Restaurant in Mississauga and I was told that the same people own both places. I had the green curry chicken with coconut steamed rice and the mango salad. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food, the curry was quite hot, if you don’t like spicy food don’t order it, but if you do it was great! The coconut curry sauce was rich, creamy and flavorful. We also really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. I did think their spring rolls were way over priced but I would definitely go back.
