Tony's had been our go to place in the city, for more than 30 years, best sauce, pizza, panzerotti, recently, very disappointing, the sauce especially, like watered down catsup, what happened? Do the owners read the reviews? If the food is great almost everything could be forgiven, but the waitress agreed that the quality of the food had changed, the manager that evening disagreed that the food is made according the recipe??!!! I even asked him if he had tasted it, he said it tasted fine!!! I then knew, he had lost his sense of taste or was lying to me. Sadly, Tony, if you're out there, please, change it back, or you've lost another life long client, and hundreds of future clients I'll never be able to recommend Tony's again.
I've been to Tony's twice now, and each time its been awesome. I ordered the Panzerotti's each time.... soooo good, and it comes with a giant bowl of tomato sauce for dipping. The panzerotti's are actually so HUGE that no one in my party could finish their's, and had to take home leftovers. The atmosphere is cozy if not slightly "rustic" italian. Cost was under $20 for each person. Overall a great restaurant (they've been there since 1961 apparently), and I will definitely be back for some more panzo's!
I have been to Tony's twice and disliked it each time. I don't know what all the hoopla was about the panzerotti's because they were disgusting. You have to get it deep fried and your basically swallowing grease barf! The second time I was there I ordered lasagna and it was the worst I ever had. first off it was cold. I put my fork in it and the whole pile fell over and all the cheese came off and the noodles were slippery and the sauce was running everywhere. Lastly they are expensive I mean 15.00 on the worst lagsana ever i could have made one myself for cheaper and I bet it would have been better too
I have been to Tony's many many times. It is one of my favorites for many reasons. First are the panzos. I haven't actually had anything else as they are so good I never tire of them. They are fried however, not baked, so be prepared to hit the gym the next day. I also love the decor. It is classic dive. I feel like members of the rat pack are going to pop out from the kitchen at any moment and serenade me during my meal. If you are looking for linen napkins and diet food, look elsewhere. This is a place where you can go, for 15$ get dinner, a glass of wine and have some of your food to take home and have later.
My girlfriend and I love Italian food and have been searching the city for a great panzerotti/calzone. We've only heard great things about Tony's famouse panzerottis so we checked it out. First of all the decor feels like it is 1971 and if you are unlucky enough you'll sit in the back room which seems to be some sort of bomb shelter with absolutely no windows. For some reason the place was PACKED and it took at least an hour for food to be serviced. When we finally got our panzerottis, we were highly disappointed. They were quite large but super deep fried and disgusting. I actually felt sick watching all the fat people scarf them down. We ate half of ours each and took off instantly.
