I have stopped in to this small and un-assuming bar in the bus terminal a few times, as I have a friend who works there. All in all, it's a great place to hang out for a few drinks, watch the game or just unwind after a long day. There are always quite a few friendly "regulars" there, and by the time you leave they will be your new friends! I first expected to see more downtown "riff-raff" hanging out there, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. Transfers has a pretty basic menu - sandwiches, pitas, caesar salad, nothing too exciting, but everything I have tried has been exceptionally good and the prices are VERY reasonable! For example, my last visit I had a Gyro pita with fries, and it was huge and delicious and only $5.99! Definitely a good value there...it is also worth mentioning that their fries are fantastic - I do not usually eat fries (don't like them) but these were great! I hear the poutine with real cheese curds is out of this world. If you find yourself at or near the bus terminal with some time to kill, I would recommend stopping in for a drink or three and some food. The ladies that work there are all very nice (I realise I am a little biased here as one of them is a good friend, but it's true) and the atmosphere is fun and laid-back. The only drawback is that the only (free) parking is on the street...sometimes there aren't any spots, and even the parking lot you have to pay for is sometimes full as well. Not a problem if you're taking the bus I suppose.
Excellent food! Great service. Completely satisfied . I will visit again.
I stopped in as I was waiting for my Greyhound to arrive. I sat and waited for 10 minutes while the waitress talked to another customer at the bar. My meal finally arrived and I started eating when something caught my eye. It was a giant bug bigger than a toonie crawling across the floor. I walked up to the bar, paid and left my lunch on the table unfinished.
The only complain i would have about this place, which didnt really even apply to me this visit, is the space. it really is a bit small. but we had enough space. our fires were not done still a bit raw. but otehr than that everything else was pretty decent.
Their coffee is very good and the pre-made sandwiches are as good as you can expect from a bus terminal diner. The service is always fast & friendly. Relatively clean, given the clientèle.
I have been eating at Transfers Restaurant now for over 10 years. There Fries and Gravy are amazing and the service is always exceptional...The service is very fast and does not comprimise the food at all. The suroundings can be a little cramped at the peak hours but the atmosphere is the bus terminal which is a busy place...I will definately be returning to transfers for years to come...
Transfers is my favourite restaurant, and has been since it first opened, around 15 years ago! I've never had a bad meal there. Although the menu hasn't changed much over the years, nor have the prices. The value (considering portion size and quality of food) can't be beaten with a chisel! The dining area is intimate, the service is always exceptional, and the clientele is extraordinary.
i visited this place alone one morning before buying bus tickets. i'd never been in it before but thought of trying it once a few months ago and then i got to try it a few days ago so my memory of the place is pretty fresh (like their fries which were crisp and TASTY!) :? the service was good--she didn't treat me like a creep even though i haven't cut my hair in ages and hadn't shaved in over a week!!! that's really why i thought i should review the place. the service really was as good as monk describes and the food also. i woulda given the food TEN (10) if the meat stick hadn't been so greasy. i felt sick afterwards but i guess i woulda felt bad wherver i ate it since meat generally doesn't agree with me. and i only give transfers an 8 overall because the place looks a bit depressing on first view. but the people there are pretty cool, not only the waiteress. i mean the fellow eaters there were cool to talk to and hang out for 15. i'll definitely stop in next time i'm stuck waiting for a bus. i'd like to try the dinner menu which looked like it has a lot more options, including (of all things) vegan marshmellow pudding for dessert!
I will only visit this "restaurant" again to fill out a complaint card. There wasn't space enough for my party of 5--we had to cramp into a booth and kept elbowing each other. Transfers is OK--as a COMPLETE DIVE! Why, I wonder, doesn't it say it's located in the bus station? I had trouble finding the place, what with all the construction underway, and to make it worse, a bus almost hit me on the way in! I would really take the review by Monk Higgins with a grain of salt. In fact, now that I think about it it seems like a joke.
