We have been ordering take out from Mandarin in Kitchener Ontario and have always had great food, however, the past two times the food was terrible
Well we reserved a delivery time a full day previous, that is 24 hours, for New Years Eve. Got a dinner for 4 with add ons. Our reservation time for the delivery was at 5:30 pm, co-ordinated with other delivery so there would be an assortment of food for everyone. After calling twice we were assured it was very busy in the restaurant but it was on its way, how does the business in the restaurant affect delivery???????? Finally got the food 1 hour 30 minutes late, was assured it was fresh,,,,,,,, does fresh mean cold and soggy. Hmmmmmmm, rethinking plans for next year im sure
I don't know if I can put my finger on it, but I believe the quality's gone down ever-so-slightly. With the exception of the atmosphere being slightly more spacious/quaint, I don't find the food too much different in quality from King's Buffet, so those wanting to save $4.00 a person may want to try King's over Mandarin. Let's see what bothered me: NO soy sauce anywhere to be found in a Chinese Restaurant, Roast Beef that had NO brown color to it(was completely red...yuck!) The Prime Rib seemed a little gamey to me, and the chocolate mousse cake had no taste. The ribeye steaks that were available for the Holiday(Christmas Day) were delightful. Service seemed adequate...although server was nowhere to be found when I wanted to ask him for Soy sauce(Why isn't this on tables, or in packets near the buffet?) Overall, this will probably have the most selectrion of items locally, but unless it's a really special occasion, I would reconsider going back to King's Buffet over this. I have had some quality concerns there, but I find each dining experience slightly different anyways, and would probably return to a place I was merely content with before, accounting that I may be able to leave satisfied the next time.
The atmosphere, sound levels, etc are all suitable for a buffet-style dining experience. The servers are quick to get your drinks and bills, and they fill your water glasses and collect your dirty plates while you are up getting your next plate of food. The food has highs and lows, to be sure, as you peruse the available foods. Some are low on flavor, some are really quite good. It is consistent each time I visit. As you would expect, buffet is not the healthiest of eating styles, and Mandarin certainly follows the chinese-food-style of frying an awful lot of your menu choices, I like this restaurant in particular because of the wide selection of foods, dessert included. Beware the dry cakes in the dessert section.
Excellent! Delicious Black Bean Mussels dish, Sweet and Sour Spareribs, dumplings, teriyaki chicken, rice, ice creams, Pepper Steak, Kung Pao Chicken, grilled salmon - all delicious!
