We were told we didn't need reservations. No one in there and they said they need to check for a table. Our first order was fast we waited 45 mins for our 2nd order. The server asked if we were ready to pay. We told her we were still waiting for an order. They soy sauce was too salty, they didn't bring ginger and wasabi until we were finished with our meal. The all you can eat menu is small. You cannot get sashimi or nigiri unless you pay $2 per item. Personally it wasn't all that great.
For Lasalle location: The hallmark of a good sushi restaurant is properly prepared rice, which this place fell far short of preparing. It was a combination of undercooked and stale, left open and having dried for potentially several hours before making it to my mediocre roll. If you want a plate of nigiri or sashimi, prepare to spend a boat load for it. I ordered the bento box because it was essentially the only thing on the menu under 15 dollars. It was like a snack, not enough for lunch at all. Tempura and salad were good, sushi was terrible.
My friend first took me to Koi for my birthday to try out sushi since she knew I had an interest in it. It was the best sushi I had ever eaten. The waitresses are very friendly and the sushi chef is amazing and a great guy.
Love this little spot in Kingsville! Very relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. On our first visit, the chef brought us a complimentary roll! (then we ordered one, it was so good!) Every so often they have specials like all you can eat Tuesdays (that was last March), or make your own sushi (again last year). In our experience, dinner reservations are a must; good idea for lunch too as this is a very busy restaurant. All menu items are FRESH and great quality. Closed Mondays.
September 9th 2010 I found this restaurant very relaxing and organized. Service excellent and very helpful when asked questions about the menu. I will return and with friends. I am glad I won the gift certificate to try the restaurant.
I dont know if maybe i was spoiled by great sushi before, but the sushi i had was way below any sushi standard i have. i have never tried any cooked meals at this restaurant, i am only talking about the RAW sushi. i feel i left hungrier then when i had arrived. plus they did not have everything avaliable that was on their menu.
For a meal you can't get anywhere else, Koi Sushi is the place to go. Offering fully cooked non fish meals as well, its a fun place to be that is sure to win you over as well.
My first experience at Koi went well. I am not a seafood eater but did not feel intimidated and I ordered the coconut curry chicken. It was delicious. The atmosphere is quite nice. My only complaint: the waiter needs to quit smoking. Not a pleasant smell while eating!
I've visited Koi on several occasions so far. I live in Windsor and it's worth the drive out to Kingsville. The food is fresh and the chefs are friendly and very knowledgable. I recommend sitting at the bar to watch the chefs roll. Have to try a few sake bombs (Little cup of sake dropped into a rock glass of Japanese beer) but be careful they can creep up on you. :-)
When I first took my partner to Koi, she'd never eaten Sushi before, after her first experience she became an instant regular and it is now her preferred restaurant in town. While the prices are a bit steep compared to other sushi places we save 20-30 bucks by not driving into Windsor and paying for parking so we still come out ahead. Since our first visit the service has been consistently friendly and helpful. If you're new to sushi feel free to ask questions, all of our stupid questions were answered without embarrassment. No debit is a bit of a bugger though.
I have been to this restuarant a couple times now, the food itself is really good, however the service is sub-par. Sushi can be a bit difficult to order if your not familiar with it, so you would think that your server would help. Instead there was absolutely NO help and when we placed the order we ended up ordering over 20 rolls for 6 people..........You would think the server might fill you in that it might be a bit much. So as the food kept coming out her only comment was "well now you have left-overs". I have heard that this has happened there before from other fellow patrons. If you know sushi the food is great because the chef knows what he's doing however the hospitality and servers need some training. I only get take-out now! FYI Bring Cash or credit because they don't take debit.....(well they do you just have to pay a $1.50 service charge)
I discovered Koi when they first opened and have been back regularly time and time again. The food is second to none. Everything we've had there has always been delicious and best of all, its the kind of food that makes you feel good, its so good for you. Staff is great, service too. I can't wait to go back.
I stopped in for lunch. That's it, nothing more. Just checking the place out, you know. I had no idea that the atmosphere and hospitality would be so pleasant and professional, that I would take the afternoon off, and stay and visit with my new friends. My lunch was so tasty that I ended up having dinner there too, with absolutely no regrets. I'll definitely be back. TYKIKIHOHO
I visit several times a week for the last couple of months and the food, service, and atmosphere is fantastic. I highly recommend visiting if you never have before. You'll love it.
It was our first time trying out this new Japanese restaurant in Kingsville. The atmosphere was amazing along with the service and food. We will definately go back.
