Very impressed with this resturaunt. I took some friends from montreal earlier this week for lunch. We had the chipotle chicken wrap, fish and chips and quesadillas. Food was AMAZING! Never had sweet potatoe fries so fresh. The fish and chicken were very tastey and well seasoned. Perfect amount of spice on the wrap. Services was amazing as the owners were very welecoming and food was made quick. Highly reccomeneded!
Truly love this place! The employees are hardworking, the atmosphere is very comforting, and the food is always fresh and CONSISTENTLY amazing. My personal favourite - the Chicken Bacon Club Sandwich!!
They make really good food and the staff are so wonderful and helpful n always have a smile on their faces. You get served very fast and lovely place to eat I wouldn't eat anywhere else
Well, I have been back to Toby's again and again, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I like it. It's more convenience and a place to go for breakfast at a reasonable price. The breakfast is okay at $3.99 (includes coffee in August), but it's the loud music first thing in the morning that irks me! I wish I could find a quiet nice place for breakfast in the downtown area. Oh well, perhaps I am just getting old and cranky!

We have been here a number of times for breakfast and some dinners and especially enjoyed the breakfast and price. Recently the price went up but we went back and this time we had the blonde waitress and the service was like we did not exist. She took our order and forgot to ask us if we wanted coffee or anything to drink. She did not act friendly at all, like it was a chore to wait on people and there were only a couple of customers there. She did not ask how our food was and she did not bring us anymore coffee or ask if we wanted anything else , she just plopped down the bill and did not even say thankyou. On the way out she acted as if we should give her all the change from a large bill. I have been there before and the male waiter made you feel at home and his service was very very good. I would not want someone like this working in my Restaurant, she's turning away customers. Not sure if we will return, not when she's there I know for sure.
It's probably because of my age that makes me prefer restaurants that are quiet, where a TV isn't pointed at you at all times, and the music too loud. The place is OK in a pinch. Most recently, I had breakfast which was the $2.99 special. Coffee $1.75. It was pretty good, other than my eggs which I requested over hard were served to me "barbecued", meaning that they were way over done. Kind of burnt and leathery. There aren't many places where you can have a good old fashioned breakfast, so I guess this place is better than nothing!

I have been coming to this place for 20 years, I have never had any promblem with food or service. I took my 11 year old son there for his first time he say's it is the best place ever!! We had the steak sandwich....to die for! I think fatpig has issues!! Or he's never been there. WE ARE LOYAL TOBY'S CUSTOMER'S..... forever!
I've been a faithful patron of this Toby's for about 25 years! I live out of town now, but sometimes we'll make the trip in, just to go there again!
Many moons ago I was addicted to their burger, they were great! Bacon Cheese and Texarcana Sauce (Salsa)! But I have to say, I get to go less now, so I have to have their nachos every time. Chili, Cheese Sauce, Cheddar, and their homemade Texarcana Sauce (Salsa), Jalapenos and Sour Cream.. can't eat them all by hand, as they get mushy becuz of all the stuff layered in them, but my GOD they are GOOD!
Husb usually gets their burger, but this time he got their Clubhouse.. I haven't seen a Club like that in YEARS! How many places serve their clubs with 'real' chicken any more??? And piled huge, cut in triangles, just like they're supposed to be! It was so big he couldn't finish it!
They have crappy hours, but unfortunately a sign of the times, as most of their biz is not at night. We got there just before closing, and they still accommodated us with a smile. We didn't mean to be PITA customers, but we kept the server hopping, and special requests (extra salsa, hold the sour cream, hey can you get me some gravy, you know, annoying customers we were!), and she was quick and friendly. I even spilled salsa on my WHITE shirt and she RAN to get me some club soda to soak it up. We were cafe owners ourselves until recently, and we know we probably ordered the 2 menu items which are the fussiest things to make, plus one of us had fries, and one had rings, if it were us serving us that evening, we'd be annoyed with us! haha! But our food came quickly, and no rolling eyes or frowns.
Oh, and btw, the staff were doing their evening cleanup while we were there, and I can vouch for the place being clean! Much cleaner than it was years ago!
Parking is of course a problem in any downtown, but if you go after 6pm to the underground parking, get your ticket, and ask Toby's to stamp it, the parking only costs a buck!
I love this place! And I'm so happy they still have the same great stuff they used to make, and haven't compromised their quality, ingredients, or portions!
I feel that the waitresses lack the ability to work in an environment that involves customer service skills. I don't know the waitresses name (Bonde) but, she wouldn't let us sit where we were going to, it was busy. The next thing I saw her do, was to blow her nose, didn't wash hands then started to put out utensils. How sanitary is that? Does the word bacteria not fit into her vocabulary. I will never go there again. I shall try another place
Have been coming to Toby's for lunch for years. This place has the best service for a 1-hour lunch. Nick and Karen are just wonderful. Service is fantasic! Never had a bad lunch there.
love all the food there have never had a bad meal, all is good! All the staff have always been very friendly and cooperative, have never had any problems....

I don't know what the other 2 people who gave a review were talking about, but there is a bunch of regulars that go to Toby's all the time and never had a problem with food, service, place is clean.
Arrived for lunch on our first day in Hamilton, realizing after it was too late to turn back that the restaurant smelled of burning rubber (?) Ordered coffee, BLT, and house soup. Coffee passable, soup okay but much too salty, and the BLT was a joke. Hard strips of rreheated bacon on cold toast with a scraping of mayonnaise leaves a lot to be desired, and it cost around 8 bucks. The fries that came with the sandwich were grease-soaked and unappetizing. Toby needs cooking lessons.
