Had a donair for old times sakes....used to have them regularly when Sammy's first opened some thirty years ago on Fairview St.. They used to be big juicy and tasty...now they are simply tiny, way overpriced and lousy, but back to my review of todays donair: Bitter disappointment. To make a long story short the original donair used to be twice the size and on a scale of 1-10 the original being ten this sad excuse was a tasteless 2 ( to be charitable) Athmosphere? None excistant. Service? As if the no personality people behind the counter even know what service is. Hey, I'm a customer have some respect since I pay your wages...all you see are sullen expressions and downright disrespect in their eyes as if they have to push themselves serve you and customers a necessary evil.. Well sorry to bother you and if you hate customers that much get out! I will NEVER set foot in your store again!
Their donairs are really the best around, the sweet sauce that comes with the donair is what makes it so awesome. I recommend the donairs to everyone I know and they all love it too.
Well, having spent my university years ( 82 -86) in Halifax, I kinda KNOW Donairs. ( 4 in the morning apres Cabbagetown, Mist Moon, palace). Moved to Southern Ontario ( Oakville) 10 years ago, and mourned the loss of donairs.... UNTIL, I found SAMMI's last year....OMG....as authentic as you will find anywhere outside of Halifax....YUMMMMMM!
First I want to say that I was born and raised in Nova Scotia and this is NOT a Nova Scotia Donair!! However.....it is not too bad. The sauce was alright but something was missing. It just didn't taste the same....but it was close. The meat was on a spit as it should be but was missing a few spices. It was sort of plain. No kick. The service was very good and the people were friendly. The place is a Lebanese place so I was a bit disappointed it wasn't a better donair. The baklava was very dry. Sitting around for too long I guess. Over all if you are dying for a donair then you can get one here but don't expect it to be authentic. I will visit again since it wasn't too bad and as close to a real donair as I've found so far in Ontario.
The donair was OK, but not as good as I had hoped. The size of the donair was small for the price. If you have a craving for a donair then this will satisfy it but just.
