No matter what I have to say about the restaurant, food or service, everything paled in comparison to the 'critter' I saw run across the floor of the dining room! I know it is an old building by the river...BUT!

My first impression of Earl and Angelo's was good... it is a beautiful building in downtown Belleville. The hostess who sat us and the waiter who served us were both very pleasant, as well. Our waiter informed us that they had a special kobi beef burger ($17), which my boyfriend ordered. He had requested it to be cooked to 'medium', and it arrived very well done. In fact, it was one of the driest burgers I have ever tasted (and I'm an experienced burger orderer). I ordered a thai shrimp noodle salad. The shrimp were soggy, and a little slimey, which was quite an unpleasant combination. My guess is that they came out of a bag, were thawed in a sink, and sat around for a day before they ended up in my salad. Had I only ranked the server who waited on us, the service rating would have been a 9 or 10. Unfortunately, the owner/chef John, an acquaintance of my boyfriend, decided to greet us in the restaurant. For the entire 15 or so minutes that we waited between ordering our food and receiving it, he stood with his back to me, his hand on the back of my chair, and talked to my date. Embarrassed, my date tried to introduce me, my hand got crushed in a handshake, and he again put his back to me and returned to his conversation. I have never experienced such an unbelievable display of rudeness, and by the owner!! We will not be back.

This was our first visit to this restaurant. The food was excellent, and the wine very good. The entrees are pricey, most with sides extra. The 'Earl' and the Special came with potato and veggies. The service was very good, with the waitress being friendly and knowledgeable. If you don't mind the high prices, this is a great restaurant.
