Amazing wings! And burgers! Great live bands
We came here for our Wedding Rehearsal Dinner! Bride and Groom loved it!!!! My guests loved it! Excellent venue with the private room upstairs. Food was abundant - I am glad I went with my gut and ordered more then we needed. We got to take home all the leftover too! Some of my guests went into the court yard and had more drinks after the party was over. Some are now regulars too! ***Be careful about parking on the street... some guests got tickets!***
A group of us went here after a visitation at the funeral home next door. Fish and chips I ordered was okay, but the portion was rather small. Everyone else seemed very pleased with their meal so I'm giving it a higher rating than if I had been alone. Beer selection was quite good, and the waitress was pleasant and very knowledgeable, she rattled off all the available specials without hesitation. The ambience is perhaps the main attraction here. We started out in the charming courtyard, which despite a slightly chilly evening was so nice that we didn't want to leave. Until the rain started. Okay, the inside was absolutely packed, so what to do? The waitress was quick to open up the upstairs lounge, which was just as nice as the courtyard. Nice move! If we're in the area again we will return.
Went to the coach a couple weekends ago and much to our surprise the food was completely inadequate and seemingly cooked from frozen. After speaking to two servers and finally the Owner we were given two vouchers for $5 towards our next visit. This past weekend we ventured back to the coach, ordered drinks and advised the server we needed a few minutes with the menu. 25 minutes later, and two empty glasses, no one took our order. We left the vouchers and $5 on the table for the drinks and left. Will never return to the coach again!
Let's start with the food: one of our group ordered a daily special, and he was beyond pleased with it. Said it was amazing. Apparently the chili was also excellent. Everything else was just ok. The nachos, as someone mentioned below, were quite bland for the $13 price-tag. The fish and chips were quite soggy, and the Greek salad was steeply priced for what you got. The beer/wine prices were perhaps more expensive than other places, but not by too much. The service we received was excellent, especially since the place was completely packed, and standing-room only for quite a few people. Despite the food being lack-luster, the place was jam packed with people enjoying the unique atmosphere and live music. Overall, the dining experience was enjoyable primarily because of the great atmosphere at this place.
I love the coach! The atmosphere is fantastic. It is a wonderful place to go to in the winter and relax. The patio is quaint and nice in the summertime. Yes, the prices are a bit high and the selection is limited but I believe I read on the menu once that they buy locally which as a result makes their prices higher. Last I went, my friend had the homemade hamburger (recommended) for $8.99 and said it was the best she's ever had! I had the stew (feature of the day) and it was fantastic!!! Not to mention that our sweet waitress was impeccable in timing and polite! I highly recommend!
We went to this restaurant as it came highly recommended from friends. It was one of the worst let downs in a restaurant I have ever experienced. My husband and I both ordered sandwiches with fries which we waited for for over 2 hours, while a couple that came in 45 minutes after us were served and left before we ever saw our meal. When the sandwiches finally arrived they were not right and the fries were stone cold. The server was extremely rude and less than courteous. He then muttered a profanity about me as I did not leave him a tip. I will never return to the Coach and Lantern.
Service was excellent, she couldnt of been more right on time and very outgoing. A gentleman visited our table to see how everything was. Our food was exceptional and it was pipin hot the way I like it. Now we have a new place to add to our favourites and we love the atmosphere. We were fortunate to be among many enjoying a talent show with singing and playing guitars, it was so much fun and it was busy. We will definately go back again. Thankyou.
The escargot was awful and the drinks were overpriced. The place has gone downhill. If you're going to raise prices, it should be reflected in what you are offering.
My family recently moved to Ancaster, drawn here in part by the attractive main strip. We were very pleased to see a cozy pub right in the middle of town and decided to try it out shortly after arriving. The service was adequate and friendly enough, although a little slow (it wasn't even a busy night). I suppose that we were paying extra for atmosphere, because the food menu was definitely overpriced for what we received. In particular, the nachos (which were more expensive than just about anywhere else around) consisted of tasteless tortilla chips with extremely skimpy toppings. Despite living within a couple of kilometers of the Coach & Lantern, we will be trying out other pubs because there is just too much selection these days to make the same mistake twice. Too bad.
My wife and I have very busy schedules so every few weeks we like a break from the kitchen. The Coach and Lantern has become the answer to our " no cooking fridays". Now one might think that we would run out of menu choices after a few months, but owners Mark and Andrea have taken care of that by offering daily soup, meat, and pasta features that obviously have no relation to leftovers smothered in unknown sauces that we have experienced in other operations in the past. Keeping it fresh along with consistency in the level of service offered is a must in the food industry. Throw in a table visit where it is not uncommon for one of the owners to sit down just to say hello and thank you for your business is icing on the cake. Speaking of which, the homemade cheesecake is fantastic. If you are looking for a little getaway where rest and relaxation seem effortless to achieve, then " The Coach" might be the answer. We might even change our kitchenless night to a Monday or Tuesday for an intimate start to the week. Kudos to Mark and Andrea for throwng complacency out the window.
The atmosphere is second to none in the area. The food is above average for a modern day pub. The staff is and has been genuinely friendly and attentive evey time I have visited. The new owners are doing pretty much everthing right, including table visits and asking for feedback from their customers. The latter is a breath of fresh air in this day and age of fast food restaurants disquised as authentic pubs. If you have'nt been to this establishment lately, I recommend you try it. Old fashioned charm and ambience along with good food and company still exisits in Ancaster. Two thumbs up as one wise man put it.
We love this place! The atmosphere is amazing and the closest thing you'll get to a British pub anywhere around here! The food was great, we had no complaints! Service was better than average too! Overall, a great experience and we will definitely return!
Our visit to the Coach and lantern was a great one. First I was thrilled to be sitting on the most beatiful cozy patio in Ancaster (even Hamilton for that matter)and I was able to enjoy a great lunch special for only $7.95. The chicken sandwich was obviously home made and the portion was so big that I could only eat half of my meal. I took the other half home for sure. The wings of course were incredible as always. The service was great too. Overall a great experience.
We were very disappointed with the menu as we had looked it up on the internet and this was one of the reasons we decided upon the Coach & Lantern. When we arrived their we found a completely different menu, not at all what we expected. This was a special occasion which turned out very unsatifactory.
The food is pretty good, i perfer the old menu as well but hey i go there to drink and i always end up hungry. It did me good that night
What is going on with the new "frozen food" menu?????? I'm sure my server noticed my absolute disbelief. Perhaps I should have said something more direct. This is a beautifully quaint pub with incomparable charm. But the owners really blew it with this drastic decline in food quality. Did the Chef recently leave with the rest of the kitchen staff??? Please bring back the old menu. Otherwise, I will only show up for your drinks. Please seriously consider this suggestion. Leave the frozen food for Arena concession stands.
Food was really delicious, I approached this restaurant walking down wilson street. Really nice atmosphere, kitchen staff is awesome, young guys really polite and made me a good spaghetti.service was nice , quite the good lookin ladies!
The high rating is well deserved. This was our first visit. Enjoyable casual decor, even a musician after 9:00 pm. The "bucket of RIBS" are ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE! To say they melted in my mouth would be an understatement. We will definitely return!
this place really blew my socks off.My friends and i realyl enjoyed our night out at the coach and lanteren and deffintly will be returning for many more fun filled nights..I just wanna comment on how good looking the staff is for one ,secondly the beer selection was awesome and the food was ,well the food was absoulty to die for as my wife would say it.. Ill be back for plenty more .
