Hands down best sushi in Vancouver. Tojo is a master. His sushi will take you to new levels. Be prepared to spend some money. Sake selection is great too.
Not so good. The waiter didn't remember to bring two items to the table, and when my bf asked, pointed to the wrong food on the table. He had very little understanding of what we were saying, and what the menu items were. When the bill came, he hadn't removed the items. Not the kind of experience I would expect from a $$$ restaurant.
My friends and I went to Tojo's on 28.09.2009 to celebrate my best friend Jill's birthday. We ordered the Tropical roll, their house roll, and a side order of salad. It was incredible! The waiter gave me the dinner menu the first minute we went in the restaurant. The waiters patiently waited to take our order. The ambiance was great! They have a booth you can sit on by the window. It's great!
I love Tojo's. He truly does serve the best sushi in the province. The flavours are always clean, simple and very fresh. My only quibble is that I think the overall ambiance would benefit greatly from an update or renovation to the interior. Either way, I will always look forward to going back.

Way back in 1988, when Vancouver hadn’t yet dreamed of becoming an international culinary destination, Hidekazu Tojo opened the original Tojo’s Restaurant, a few blocks from its current location. Since then, the charismatic chef has seen the popularity of Japanese cuisine skyrocket on the West Coast, thanks in part to his award-winning eatery. For an unparalleled treat, order the omakase, in which the chef chooses and creates all the dishes, inspired by the day’s fresh ingredients. Fun fact: Tojo invented both the California roll and the B.C. roll.

Formally trained in Osaka, at one of the country’s most prestigious restaurants, Tojo eventually came to Vancouver, where he continues to master the art of traditional Japanese cuisine. Treats like wild prawn tempura and West Coast albacore tuna rolls are on the pricier side, and ideal for special occasions.
