“In grade 12, I was invited by a friend to go see it — and it just sounded so unappealing,” laughs Jay Ono, executive director of Vancouver TheatreSports League.
That was back in the early ’80s, and once Jay witnessed his first VTSL show, his life was forever altered. “I became consumed by it and started a club at school. VTSL visited my high school, saw me perform and invited me to do a show with them.”
After graduating, Jay studied acting at Studio 58 in Vancouver and “did a lot of film and television, plus 30 Equity plays in my career,” he says. And, of course, he clocked many years as a key member of VTSL, eventually becoming executive director in 1994.
An iconic local comedy institution, the Vancouver TheatreSports League has staged some of the most exciting and interactive entertainment in the city since it began in 1980. Performing live shows five nights a week at The Improv Centre on Granville Island, this improvisational comedy experience is never the same twice.
Vancouver TheatreSports League puts a unique spin on dinner and a show. On top of hosting theatre events out of their Granville Island home base, they can also come to your dinner event and bring the theatre right to your table. Talk about dinner-time drama.
