In the early 20th century, when Port Moody was developing rapidly as a mill town and Clarke Street was its commercial centre, the building now home to By Berit Boutique was originally Etter's Beauty Salon and Barber Shop. Today, it hasn't strayed far from its origins of keeping a woman's beauty and style in mind.
Montreal expat Réjeanne Delain worked in the women's clothing boutique for 14 years before purchasing it from owner Berit in 2004. She decided to keep the Scandinavian/Dutch name, which means gorgeous, splendid, and magnificent — a perfect fit for such a distinctive women's apparel shop.
