Water is essential to all life on Earth, and many people do not have access to fresh clean water as often as they need. Check out five easy ways you can stop wasting water right now:

5 simple ways to stop wasting water

1. Check your house for leaks

Fresh water should be considered valuable, particularly during a drought, and people should be careful never to waste it. There are some simple ways that individuals can stop wasting water in their homes and when they're out in the world.

  • One of the biggest wastes of water comes from leaks in a house, since leaking water simply drips and rots things that it hits. So, one good way to make sure you're not wasting water with leaks is to check your house to ensure it has no leaks.
  • Some easy ways to do this is to drop some food colouring into your toilet tank. If the colour shows up in the bowl, you have a leak from your tank to your bowl.
  • You can call a plumber to fix it or simply ask at a hardware store for solutions. You can also call a plumber to examine under sink pipes, washers and more, to ensure that you don't have water leaking anywhere unexpected.

2. Turn off the faucet when you brush your teeth

When brushing your teeth, make sure you turn off the water when the brush is in your mouth.

  • You can use water to wet your brush and rinse your mouth and the sink, but there's no reason to keep the water on while you're not using it.

3. Water your yard in the morning or evening

If you have to use water to water your lawn or garden, do it either in the early morning or late evening.

  • Watering during these times uses less water because it is cooler and the sun is weaker. At the height of the day, the sun is strong and evaporates the water you use more quickly, requiring you to water more often.

4. Take a shorter shower

Many people use the shower as an opportunity to relax or sing. In reality, however, showers should simply be used to get clean.

  • When you get in the shower, be quick about shampooing your hair and washing your body, then get out of the shower. People should try to limit shower time to under five minutes.

5. Never use the toilet as a trash can

If you throw things in the toilet other than human waste, stop.

  • Every time you flush the toilet, you waste about seven gallons of water. So, use the trash can for anything you want to discard that won't be a health hazard or smell bad.

Water is one of the most important resources on the planet, and we should think before we waste it unnecessarily. Try these tips to help become more Earth-friendly and save your water.
