Pass the pint at these British pubs in Edmonton

Originally called “public houses,” and now known as “pubs” for short, these charming little spots offer a feeling of being part of the community and they become the local hangout for many people. Pull up a stool, grab a pint and break bread with the regulars at these Edmonton favourites.

The Rose & Crown Pub

1
195-10235 101 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 3E9

Located near Rexall Place, it’s no wonder this is where to be before and after an Oilers game or concert. Always serving up the perfect pint, and some great pub grub to boot, this is really a local hangout.

The Cask & Barrel

2
10041 104 St NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 0A4

You know it’s a good place when they have beer, wine and whisky clubs. Sign me up! It’s a warm and cozy pub that’ll make you feel right at home. International beers, wines, whiskeys and pub fare done right. The shepherd’s pie, sliders and “the rancher” are the top food picks, for sure.

The Crooked Mouth Pub Ltd

3
221 Chippewa Rd, Sherwood Park, AB T8A 4E6

With a warm and friendly atmosphere, this British-style pub is a neighbourhood favourite. There is live entertainment on Fridays and Saturdays, the dart league plays on Mondays and, of course, Thursdays is pub quiz night. And, you’ll find lots of Brits longing for a piece of home here.

The Pint Off Whyte

4
8032 104 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4E2

Every day offers a different special and, of course, happy hour is the best hour(s) of the day. The great pub fare includes beefshires (mini yorkies stuffed with roast beef) and stuffed canoes. Plus, the ribs and wings “done 40 ways” can’t be beat. You’ll make a mess but it’s worth it.

The Black Dog Freehouse

5
10425 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 2A1

This is a quaint lil’ pub where many fun nights have taken place. And, in true Brit style, many varieties of beers and lagers are available on tap and in bottles. From local to international, this joint serves up some great ales. And, of course, let’s not forget the “Wooftop” patio where you get a great view of Whyte Ave year-round.

The Sherlock Holmes Pub

Owner Patrick Devaney was one of the first to introduce Edmonton to a true British pub atmosphere in 1985. Since then, these pubs have become the go-to for after work pints, watching sports on the big screens with other fans, and everyone else in between. And, of course, they are known for their authentic fish and chips.

On a cold, snowy Edmonton night, nothing says lovin’ like a cup of hot chocolate. It’s no surprise this drink was originally dubbed the “elixir of the gods.” Regardless of the variety you select, or whether you opt for the simplest hot chocolate on the menu, all I can say is ... don’t forget the marshmallows.
You don’t have to travel to Paris to have a true fine-dining experience; you can enjoy an upscale dinner, complete with a five-course meal and fine wine, right here at home. Victoria is a fine-dining destination with an excellent reputation – where talented chefs enjoy crafting delicious gourmet dishes from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Paired with a nice cup of coffee or topped with a scoop of ice cream, pie is unbeatable comfort food. And yet it faces stiff competition from cupcakes as the city’s dessert of choice. Well, pie is fighting back with old fashioned deliciousness as well as new and tantalizing flavours.
