Summer is the time to get out and explore all that Montreal has to offer. When the weather turns warm, both tourists and locals come out in droves, looking for new ways to enjoy this great city. Here are some awesome events to look forward to throughout summer 2016!
A summer in Montreal just isn’t complete without a visit to this local theme park. A popular spot for young children and adults alike, you can choose between carnival games, the traditional Ferris wheel, bumper cars, roller coasters, and dozens of delicious local treats – like Beaver Tails!
From May to October, you can take a 90-minute “Ghost Walks” walking tour through the old city and meet a variety of ghoulish apparitions along the way. Actors go all out to make the experience authentic, sharing real stories of the ghosts said to be haunting each location. But beware – it’s a truly spooky adventure!
From June through to October, you can spend some time enjoying the great atmosphere that a CFL game offers while supporting the Montreal Alouettes. A trip to the game gets even better if you join a tailgate party, visit the Happy Hour section, or indulge in an official Alouette poutine.
If you’re looking for a laugh this summer, you might want to catch one of Sugar Sammy’s comedy shows. He does performances in English, French, and a bilingual version, as well. Poking fun at local issues, Sugar Sammy gives his shows a unique twist only a true Montrealer can appreciate.
If you're a fan of the beautiful game, then don’t forget to swing by a soccer game this summer. You can cheer on our city’s MLS soccer team, kick back with a cold beer, and load up on delicious Quebec-style comfort foods. You can also make it a family event. Children three and under don’t require a ticket.
From July 22nd to 31st, the top tennis players in the world set up shop in Montreal for the Rogers Cup – some of the best tennis you’ll ever see. The action takes place at Jarry Park, and catching a few matches is fast becoming a summer tradition for Montrealers.
Montrealers spend so much time dreaming of the beach that we decided to go ahead and make our own! For the few short warm months this city experiences, you can enjoy a real beach experience right here on the island. Rent water gear, go for a swim, or even join in on some beach volleyball and you’ll feel like you’ve managed to sneak away on a mini vacation.
For the fifth year in a row, First Fridays will be back this summer. On the first Friday of every month, over 30 food trucks assemble in the city’s Olympic park for a monthly food extravaganza. Choose from gourmet foods to fast foods – whatever you’re craving, you’ll find it here.
Every year, our local theme park hosts a fireworks display in honour of various countries. Check the official Six Flags website for a list of dates. These amazing fireworks displays can be seen from various spots both on and off the island, including the Old Port and the Jacques-Cartier Bridge. Find your spot and enjoy the 32nd annual International Fireworks Festival this summer.
