Whether you’re an avid wine collector with a cellar of vino you can’t wait to try, or simply can’t find your favourite red or white on the list at your go-to date night restaurant, Bring Your Own Wine (BYOW) is an ideal option for some wine lovers. These restaurants offer diners the chance to bring in their own bottle for a corkage fee.
Known for their exquisite seafood dishes, Sabor Divino gives diners the chance to enhance their meal with a bottle of special vino brought right from their own home cellar. Customers can take advantage of their BYOW offering, as long as they pay a $25 corkage fee. Match a bottle of your favourite wine with lobster risotto, seafood paella, Chilean sea bass or grilled octopus for a hearty, satisfying dining experience.
Known as Edmonton’s only revolving restaurant, La Ronde can be found on the 24th floor of the Chateau Lacombe hotel. The restaurant, which has a fancy, formal atmosphere and French cuisine, does a full circle every 88 minutes. If you don’t get motion sickness, and would like to enjoy a bottle of your own wine from home with your meal, that’s an option. They offer BYOW with a $25 corkage fee but have a free corkage special Thursday evenings from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Nothing goes better with a big, juicy porterhouse steak than a nice bottle of red wine. This upscale downtown steakhouse curates their own wine list, of course, but if it’s a special occasion or you have a spectacular vintage at home, just dying to burst out of the wine cellar, then bring it with you. They offer BYOW but, be prepared to cough up a $50 corkage fee – perhaps the highest in the city.
Located in St. Albert, this trendy pizzeria, which opened in 2015, allows diners to bring in their own bottle of wine for a $20 corkage fee. Bonus: On Mondays, they offer a free corkage special, meaning you can drink as much wine with your antipasti and red or white sauce pizza as you like. Their own wine list is strictly Italian wines, so BYOW is a great option if you prefer wine from another region.
This chic restaurant, which opened in fall of 2014, doesn’t have a wine list, just cocktails and beer – perhaps because of their commitment to using locally sourced products. But, if you’re determined to pair one of their flatbreads or charcuterie boards with a nice bottle of vino, you can bring in your own. They offer BYOW, with a corkage fee of $25.
The Marc, a casual chic French restaurant, exudes European charm and flair without going over the top. The service is friendly and efficient, while the food is simply spectacular. Pair their famous steak frites and truffle mayo with a bottle of your favourite red vino – customers can bring their own bottle of wine in for a $25 corkage fee.
