Located in the heart of Little Italy, the Jean-Talon Metro Station is sort of a central point of the city. Its surroundings are multicultural... and its restaurants, too! Here’s a list of locations for those looking for a good bite less than a 10-minute walk from the station or the Market.[Image credit: iStockphoto.com/ © ferenz]
It’s considered a cafe, but I would call it more of a bistro. Regardless, the Beaufort is a Norwegian cafe/bistro/pub that has adapted the classics of Norway in its own way. You’ll find SmoreBrod (Norwegian bread with cheese and black beer), Polse (Norwegian hot dog), and Kjottboller (Norwegian meatballs), as well as burgers and poutine.
Here, the food is good, the people are beautiful, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is great! In short, the perfect place for a supper with friends. Pssst! For big appetites, you should opt for the huge (this word doesn’t do it justice) prime rib, which they garnish with foie gras and truffle.
As the name hints at, Petit Alep is the little brother of Restaurant Alep. This bistro mixes Armenian and Syrian cultures for a gastronomic journey of discovery – one that you won’t regret taking! We mainly go there for delicious mezzes (hummus, mouhamara, vine leaves and labnehs) and amazing wine and food pairings.
Want fast food, but the fancy kind? It happens at Chez Tousignant! In this restaurant, piloted by none other than Stefano Faita and whose décor reminds us of the snack bars of old, you can order the classics like cheeseburgers, hot dogs and poutine. But since everything is homemade, you’ll taste the difference. And let me tell you: it’s addictive!
Marie-Fleur St-Pierre is a star chef in Quebec, and a visit to her bistro-style restaurant lets you discover the full extent of her talent. Comforting Spanish-inspired dishes, attractive decor and a relaxed atmosphere all work together to create a truly enjoyable dining experience. This is a great place to discover the flavours of the Iberian Peninsula.
Salmigondis means “a blurred mixture of several elements”. In this restaurant’s case, you will indeed find many unusual creations, but nothing is haphazard and everything is delicious! In short, original cuisine for brunch and for supper.
Another Stefano Faita restaurant on this list? Oh yes! This restaurant is a Little Italy staple – and with good reason. According to many, it’s the best pizza in all of Montreal. Combine this with homemade ice cream and you’ve got a can’t-miss meal. There are other things on the menu, of course, but you come here for these two reasons.
For a culinary journey to the southern United States, head over to Dinette Triple Crown. I warn you: this is not the best choice for vegetarians. Meat is everywhere here! Pulled pork, fried chicken, smoked brisket... Mmmm! And they serve it with macaroni and cheese, buttermilk bread, or mashed potatoes and gravy. Yes, you should probably put your diet on hold if you come here for a visit.
This is one of the most famous tapas bars in Montreal... and rightly so. I have to admit that with Marie-Fleur in the kitchen, they already have a head start. Squid, cod, sardines, sausage: all used to create proper Spanish dishes you won’t soon forget. Pro tip: you can now bring Marie-Fleur’s cuisine home, thanks to her ready-to-eat take-away dishes.
