Sometimes you just have to forget the leftovers you brought to work and get out of the office for a fun lunch. Grab your coat, your chopsticks and maybe a few colleagues—or potential clients—and enjoy a Japanese-style lunch at one of these Montreal restaurants.
This brasserie-style Japanese restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy lunch in the Plateau. Order a bowl of ramen or one of the more ‘street fare’ items on the menu like the crispy soy chicken wings or pork belly buns. Enjoy the quick service but don’t leave without your black sesame milkshake!
This cool industrial-decor izakaya is one of Montreal’s trendiest addresses right now. The servings are more tapas style so order a few dishes to share. Try the Yuzu chicken or the takoyaki. It’s more of a pub in the sense that it is loud, not a place for a romantic lunch escapade. And two words: Sake Bomb.
Still more clients to impress? Saiko serves up very traditional and perfectly executed sushi and sashimi, maybe the best in town. At lunch you will find a selection of yakis, salads and bentos, plus Japanese ceviches and fish tartares.
Looking to make a great impression with potential clients? Park is the place for you. They have great specials at noon like the yam noodles, the Freestyle Bento Box or the Nigiri Park Lunch. Pro tip: lunch is the best time to discover what everyone is raving about without paying the higher price tag that comes with the dinner menu.
Sushi Tri Express has long been considered one to the best sushi places in town. Seating is limited so grab a free seat or get some take-out to enjoy your sushi and sashimi in a nearby park. They have lovely lunch express deals too. Cash only!
This stylish and modern izakaya is a popular downtown lunch hotspot with the business crowd. You can’t go wrong with one of their bento boxes, sushi specials or Japanese salads. Why not order a Japanese beer, sake or whisky, too? Treat yourself!
Sakura has been a casual lunchtime favourite for many downtown workers for along time. Besides the usual lunch specials, you can also get teriyaki chicken, a tuna steak, grilled fish, and even Homard Mikadoyaki at noon.
Perhaps not the fanciest place on the list but probably my favourite Japanese lunch spot in town, Kazu has been ultra-popular since day one. The ramen is a must with its freshly made noodles. The tuna and salmon bowl, and the 48 hours pork bowl are to die for. And the shrimp burger … OK, everything is amazing here.
