Cookware, fine products and recipe books make wonderful Christmas gifts for foodies, but this year, offer your mother or brother-in-law a break from cooking by inviting them to any of these restaurants...according to his or her personality.
For the sweet tooth: remember this restaurant when you’re hungering for breakfast, lunch or brunch. The owner (and pastry chef) has nimble fingers and has succeeded in creating pastries that make one's mouth water - so much so that you'll want to start with dessert. Whether you’re eating in or taking food to go, De farine et d’eau fraîche offers a tiny indulgence that will put you in a very good mood.
For the pizza lover: whether for lunch or for dinner, when you want a good pizza, Nolana is the place to go. Of course, there are plenty of appetizers, salads, grilled selections and typical Italian pasta dishes as well, but I always prefer to reserve my appetite for the delicious, wonderfully topped pizzas, which I devour until the last bite of crust. My favourite: the Uova (egg yolk, pancetta, pecorino, gorgonzola and mozzarella). It tastes heavenly!
For oyster lovers: known first and foremost for their oysters (the oyster bar is divine!), this restaurant also showcases various fish selections and seafood that is fresher than fresh. The locale is trendy, as well as the clientele. We love it!
For fans of hops: with their inventory of nearly 150 beers from 30 countries, Bier Markt is definitely the paradise of hops. Located just steps from the Bell Centre, this restaurant-bar is the perfect place to grab a bite and a good beer (or two!) right before the game. And you come back after the game to celebrate the victory!
For the art lover: the restaurant Être Avec Toi (ÊAT) opened its doors very recently but is definitely a restaurant to remember if you’re looking for a unique experience! The decor is signed by a handful of Montreal artists specializing in street art, and live performances are scheduled until the month of February. On the menu, seafood is king and is available in many different ways. In short, ÊAT is the hip landmark of the moment!

For a unique experience: how would you like to have dinner in an enchanted forest? This is the concept proposed by Soubois, a new local bistro that turns into a nightclub in the evening. Fish, rotisseries, grilled items and seafood are all on the menu. Here, you can eat fresh, local and according to the catches/arrivals of the week. Wonderful surprises wait with every visit.
For the dreamer/foodie: Europea is sure to impress, as dining here is an experience in itself. From the appetizers to the dessert, everything is calculated and designed to provide veritable eating pleasure. It is an awakening of the senses that is experienced by the eyes, nose and mouth. In short, everything at Europea is perfect: the service, the decor, the dishes and the entire experience!
For the budding sommelier: Buvette chez Simone offers a small, friendly locale where you can enjoy good wine. I suggest you take your seat (preferably around the bar) and order a recommended privately imported wine, marvellously accompanied by homemade charcuterie (cured meats), cheese and fish selected by you. Everything is shared, the atmosphere is festive and the clientele is as eclectic as the wine list.
