“Putting on a pair of high heels makes any woman feel instantly different. It’s as though they confer their wearer an aura of self-confidence, a boost of energy,” proclaims Tina Karr, physical expression coach and lecturer on matters of posture and self-confidence. Tina is one of Quebec’s only experts on high heels and their history, as well as the science behind the effects they have on women’s behaviour. “When a woman slips on high heel shoes, she is transformed, really. Physiological changes can be observed, at the body language, posture and gait level, but also psychological changes, such as more confidence and that feeling that nothing can stop you.”
A ballerina, mime and puppeteer by trade, Tina loves to address female audiences. “I wrote my first book in 2010 that dealt with reclaiming one’s sexual power after giving birth. After its publication, many readers wrote me to ask me to help them more. Self-esteem and self-confidence were recurrent matters, so I started thinking of new ways to help them with those issues. Naturally, high heels came to mind, and I saw them as instruments of transformation and self-worth.”
