I've been coming here for quite a few years but recently I brought a friend from out of town and it has gone downhill. spent 1 1/2 hours there while only being served 1 drink. questioned the waitress on the issue and she said that is what their smart serve program suggest. absolutely ridiculous to go a place where you have to wait so long to spend money. I always drink responsible and use cabs. maybe the servers should use their own judgement when serving. won't be back unfortunately
Poor management, mediocre food. Nothing special, PMs do the waste your money
We had a wonderful time watching both the basketball and hockey playoffs. The wings were excellent as always and the pizza, which I tried for the first time was fantastic. Kate the manager made us feel at home. A Waterloo landmark, we love this joint.
Had absolutely the most disrespectful and rude manager deal with us at Morty's. As good as their wings or the atmosphere may be, I think customer service is extremely important when in the service business. I will NEVER be returning to Morty's after my terrible experience with them. We always go there in large groups and always have separate bill, this time they told us that we would have to put it all on one bill. The one manager that dealt with us was completely rude and disrespectful.
You hear Morty's mentioned as the 'best wings in K-W'. I'd like to know who started that nonsense. Their wings are terrible. They coat them in colossal amounts of breading, and their sauces are pretty dreadful. Only their suicide sauce is palatable. The rest just taste like grease. And this place has possibly some of the worst service I've ever encountered. Rude management, rude waitresses, no respect for the customer whatsoever. How this place became a Waterloo mainstay, I'll never understand.
Piggy loves chicken wings. Everyone talks about the wings at this place however I don't think that they have the best wings in town. In fact the wing size is quite small. The wings may appear large due to the huge amounts of breading that are caked on. This is a gimmick designed to fool the untrained wing eater and the empty stomach. When we ordered half un breaded wings, we still got 4 sets of breaded wings. This was our first disappointment. If I wanted bread with my wings then I would ask for a side of toast! Please leave the wings as they are. The 4 flavors were: Super Suicide - A little bit too much vinegar on these and loads of salt. The sauce could have been spicier. Personally I would cake those babies in some roasted habanera paste. Wet Cajun - The breading really made these bad boys sloppy, however this was probably one of the best tasting ones. Dry Cajun - Enjoyed the crispy dry seasoning; however there was way too much salt and they were slightly over seasoned, the bread contributed to the dry crunchiness even more. Would have been much better un breaded. Sweet Thai Chilly - Now these were just horrible, soggy and too sweet. Could have used a dash of lemon to balance the syrupy sweetness. The breading really fell apart here and was in the form of a regurgitated paste. The service was good, and the staff friendly. The patio is also pretty relaxing although it could benefit from a little bit more privacy from the busy road, a row of potted cedar trees would really do the trick.
A long time favorite of mine. I recommend the half pound Morty burger - homemade style, char broiled, and available with great toppings, like cheddar, sauté mushrooms, bacon, etc. I also recommend the calzone. Pub type atmosphere, beside Laurier University.
Recently went here on a Friday night for a little late night snack and drinks. Huge university crowd and plenty of TVs surrounding you, make for a slightly loud area, but it's pretty decent overall in there. Annoying parking though, so be prepared to walk. Have to admit, some pretty amazing wings. Really did enjoy them. Found the service a little slow, watching people that came in after us getting their food before we had ours was a little frustrating. Disappointed on on the lack of free refills for pop after paying over $2 for a coke. I'd be back for the wings as they are worth it.
I have been to Morty's countless times and sure, the service can be a bit spotty, but the wings make up for it. GREAT place. Come on Monday or Thursday for wings night. Don't listen to the haters.
If you want wings and pizza or want to watch a sporting event, this is the place to go. The five of us came in during a Monday wing night, saw the lineup and thought we would not get a seat. Whithin 10 minutes the manager or owner got us a booth. All of us were eating meaty and crispy wings 10 minutes after that. The wings here really are the best and biggest I have ever had. I don't know what they put in them but they are so addictive! We have also had the homemade pizza and lasagna. Both are excellent.
This place possibly has the largest and most delicious chicken wings I have ever had. Even though the flavors are limited the taste of the wings is to die for. The service is a little on the slow side but that can be expected if you hire the local students as help. Has the overall theme of a sports bar but still puts out some delicious menu items. The good thing about this place is that you can order to go without having to sit down and wait. Great place to watch the game and have a few beers and wings with the fella's.
We went to Morty's last week for a few beers and a bite to eat. We have had okay service in the past, and the food was alright too. Just your typical pub food. This time when we went in however is a completely different story! We waited well over 15 mins. at our table before we were even greeted. Our drinks came promptly which we thought was great and that this could be the start of a new beginning... it was not! We ordered an appetizer which we did want first, then to fallow a pizza and some wings. Well more then 45mins went by and no word on our food, not even our app. came out! The server did come by to let us know that she was going to check on it for us, but never came back! An hour and 15mins went by with no food and still no word from a server, and no manager in sight to complain to. At this point we were seriously considering walking out, which we don't ever want to do, but with our limited service and no help from a manager and our tummies growling, we were gearing up to leave. Finally our food came, all at once. To be honest, the food tasted bland and cold. Perhaps this was a reflection of the poor service we received that night. We got our bill, which by the way had no adjustments, which we kind of expected taking into account we were left alone for over an hour with no food, and no explanation as to what happened. We paid and left, and will never be back! I am sad to say, that I am now one that will agree with all of you out there that Morty's has the worst service and alright food, at best.
This is a great resto/bar if you are in the mood for pubgrub. They have really good wings and the atmosphere is generally great! Service could use some improvement by being quicker, but they are mostly University students with not a lot of experience, so it is acceptable. Great place to watch a game or just relax and chat on the patio.
I have only been here once. And the one time i came my friends (corona reps) were decorating the place for an event which came two weeks later. Naturally we all got coronas. Ummm... doesnt beer expire in 6 months? Yes, said my tastebuds and forced the brain to return the beer to its righteous owner. That was a silly no-no. Apart from the stale old Coronas, everything else was great. Even though the place was packed in the middle of a weekday, our food came fast, and the server wasnt absent or pushing herself in our faces. One bad mention goes towards the food - i have never seen so much grease on a piece of cheese hanging off a nacho. I could practically see the "nutrition facts" table drowning in there. Give me a calorie break why dont ya. I would definitely come back just to give it another try. Btw the wings here ARE that good.
Okay, I am new to the province, and I had to give my photo ID to the liscensing people so they could send me an Ontario liscence. Nevertheless, I am 32 years old, but they refused to serve me more than a virgin drink. Okay, whatever. But the drink they brought my GF was awful, and we returned it, but it showed up on our bill. The food was also a bust, I had the buffalo chicken sandwich because I heard the wings were good, but wanted a sandwich. As it turned out, the chicken was way overcooked, and the accompanying fries were soggy. I will never again darken their doorway, and reccomend the same for anyone else. Did this experience sound like it warranted a $35 pricetag?
We arrived at a pretty busy time, plus 2 hockey games were on which didn't help in the turnover rate. But after we got seated, drinks arrived fast along with our appetizers and the rest of our food. Food was amazing as usual, I've only been here mainly on wing nights... but their regular food on the menu is great as well. Everytime we come we order the mozzarella sticks, and it never disappoints. The only thing that somewhat bothered me about the service this time was how a person in our party wanted to split something on the bill with someone else from our party and asked while ordering, and the waitress said it was no problem. But when it came to getting the bills, she apologized because she couldn't split the item between 2 bills...Other than that our experience was great as always, and we will definitely return.
I was doing a search on places in Waterloo from the hotel. Needed to find a decent spot for a bunch of football players on short notice. Last review (same day, and late, we wanted to go in) said there were feathers on the wings...and ya I had one or two feathers (more like a small chicken hair) on the wings, out of close to 115 wings. You know what, you order that many wings and they come out that great...we'll let a couple chicken hairs go. go to a poo-poo-shoo-shoo if you want perfect, mechanically seperated and then joined food! Nachos were good (having a side bowl of hot sauce was great), but cheese was clumped. Our waitresses were great and had a good senses a humour! (pretty hot too). Good spot for real folks. T. Brown
Walked into Mortys during a lunch time, was seated quickley. The service was okay, as our appetizers came very quickley. However..when the main course came..the wings. I noticed a full feather on one wing..as I dug for more wings..more feathers seemed to emerge. Nearly half of our wings were covered in disgusting little feathers that someone forgot to pluck. The manager came after we put an inquiry to the waitress, and he neglected to give a refund. I ate one wing. He explained it was common. Yes, common for one wing..but not half of 20. Terrible.
good spot to eat. food was good and atmosphere too. awesome wings and pizza. ladies liked the antijitos (sp?) comfortable spot with wide range of customers. would for sure go back.
For the "best wings in town" We were extremely disappointed. Absolutely bland.
