Been to this place a couple of times, I LOATHE this restaurant. One night there was a group of young men in the back drinking, there was five of us also ordered drinks, and when we left through the back door they yelled profanity at us. Another occasion a birthday party, they were yelling and screaming and we sat behind this group. The portion of the food is not great, the lighting is horrible, the bathroom is ghetto and you can barely hear yourself talk due to the awful loud music!!
Everything about this meal was fantastic! The service was polite and fast, and our water glasses were never empty for long. The antijitos were the best I've ever had (and I've had a lot). Everyone I went with was happy with their meal. A couple of people got the whoppie burger and really liked it, and fajitas was the special (which one person got and it looked great). Definitely try this little gem out sometime!
This is an interesting place that I would never have gone to if it wasn't for a suggestion from a friend of mine. Situated on a small street just out of sight. A great place for a social rendezvous and a quick bite to eat. It satisfies both the eyes and the ears. Comes with a vast array of flavored martinis and cocktails and a small menu for the vegetarian inclined. The menu may be small, but it hits the spot if you're not looking for a huge meal.
Jane Bond is a funky little place that fills a nice vegetarian niche since Zen Garden closed. It's a small menu but enough variety to please non-vegetarians (like me). The atmosphere is very casual, but great for the university crowd or those willing to look past its' dive-bar-esque look. I have been there twice, once when it was full and once almost empty, and the service has been great each time. Grilled pitas with artichoke caponata, olive tapenade, & hummus were great and a good appetizer-sized portion. I had the grilled cheese with pasta salad, my date had the lasagna. Appetizers were around $7 and most entrees around $10. Best for us was the wine choses--good for a small place including some currently "hip" wines, meaning somebody pays enough attention to update the list regularly. Wine prices were some of the best we've seen --$6.75 for a New Zealand Sauv Blanc?! Very reasonable. (Contrast that with others in the area that would be >$7 for an Ontario dep wine.)
Jane Bond is a hidden treasure. It's a cool place to hear decent music and have a few drinks. The atmosphere is fun and it shows in the staff. The servers treat you like friends and they are extremely attentive. The menu, like the bar itself, is small but it hits all the right notes. The grilled cheese and caesar salad is definitely a standout. It's hard to find a flaw in Jane Bond at all. It has to be one of the most overlooked bars in KW. Well worth a visit.
My friends and I went for drinks and some snack foods. Service was subpar. After we ordered, she left the drink on the bar, and we had to go and get them ourselves. The nachos were bland. The bean dip was a bit interesting, but the salsa was subpar. It was just below average. I was disgusted at my drink. It really was grape juice. The strawberry in it was mouldy. I ignored that. As a drank my juice, it became increasingly clear that I had a dirty glass. There was a piece of food stuck to the inside of my glass (that did not belong to my drink). That was the last straw. I confronted her. She didn't charge me for the drink, but I felt a bit ill (just from the though, not actually food poisoning). The place was average. Lots of sexual statements, middle fingers and that type of thing on the wall. Eclectic decor. I'm not going back.
Ordered a vodka martini extra dry - don't know if it was the vodka or the vermouth or both but I found it way too sweet and it lacked that "warmth" that I usually associatie with the after taste of a good martini. On the other hand I found the setting to be unusal and somehow "comfortable".
Another restaurant I haven't been to for a long time. The food was so good that I still remember it even though it was almost 9 years ago! I remember the service being both prompt and friendly, the atmosphere hip and funky. Good music and more art from local artists displayed. This is definitely on my "places to go" list next time I'm in town!
This is a very cool place, suitably located under a record store. The menu is pretty much all vegetarian (but don't let that scare you, there's lots of delicious cheese covered comfort food) and the decor is very 70's cottage rec-room. A good low-key DJ set the mood for conversations between the university cool-kids, and a relaxed, friendly vibe for drinks and socializing.
Food is excellent - always fresh, delicious and healthy too! Try the soup and panini (both change daily). Don't expect to get your blah McPubGrub here. Atmosphere and music is terrific but may not be everyone's cuppa tea. Have always had good service here.
Ignore the food rating. I heard it was good, but never got that far. We went there, got ignored and treated like lepers for awhile then left without even getting a table. Very very bad service.
