Meet the owner

Maurice Amar's passion for fine arts of all sorts is no new thing: he's long been fascinated by painting, sculpture and other aesthetic practices. "I'm from a very artistic family myself," Maurice says of his upbringing, to which he credits his affinity for the arts. "I moved to Canada from Europe at a very young age, and as far as I can remember, arts have always been a very strong interest of mine."

True to his calling, Maurice opened his first art gallery in the 1970s in the Yorkville area, naming it Laurier Gallery. Maurice decided to keep the name when he later moved the gallery to Liberty Village, bringing it just a little closer to the waterfront.

Through the gallery Maurice strives to share his passion with the public, welcoming all types of pieces and paintings to Laurier Gallery's walls.

"The gallery is indeed open to the public,” Maurice points out, “and it's great to see the area's residents engage with it, visit the exhibitions and get to know new artists as well as established ones. I see it as a kind of service to the community; everyone loves to see beautiful art and inventive pieces, and we're here just for that. Everyone is welcome here."
