Walk into Department of Interiors on Yonge Street right across from Summerhill subway station in Toronto and you’ll find Robert Warsh, the energetic and engaging owner of the business, whose supply of fine textiles, antiques and furniture will transport you into a world of retail not often seen in today’s e-commerce-based market.
Robert got his introduction to fabric early on, as his family worked in the clothing business; they were part of the late Harridge’s, a high-end department store located in the Manulife Centre on Bloor Street. Eventually, Robert’s interest shifted from clothing to the elaborate world of interiors, where high-quality fabric and textiles reigned.
From Robert’s perspective, Department of Interiors is all about quality: “There are certain things that should be made properly and with integrity,” he explains. “I come from a time when people wanted value for their money and they wanted quality for their money; they weren’t looking to decorate a home in five seconds.”
