This is the best fish and chips that I've ever tried in Toronto. (I went there on the advice of a friend and would have never have gone here without that recommendation). It's a very unassuming place, with fairly drab surroundings. But the fish is top notch, with large portions at a good price. I don't really know what else to say besides that. It's fish and chips and it's GOOD. (If it weren't for the location, I'd come back more often.)
I'm from England so was very sceptical of "British style" fish n chips, amazingly I loved it. Just like at home the chips are wrapped in paper, the fish is battered perfectly and the owner is friendly. By no means am I attacking the reviewer who said that it is not like british fish n chips due to no sit down, no waitress etc. I have never been to a chippy at home with these things. In fact British style has more sit down capacity than I have ever seen at home. I certainly do not recommend going to a chippy in England if these are your pet peeves! The only thing missing is the mushy peas and curry sauce (though I think that is a northern thing in England). So I deeply recommend British style if you want a taste of England or just a warming meal, in fact my boyfriend has just got home with our chips so have to run.
Fantastic fish & chips - my wife and I went here one Friday after reading reviews on this site. We went again the following Sunday! The fish here is fantastic and very fresh. The fries are amazing. It takes a little while to get it but is very well worth the wait. The staff is very friendly, and the drinks we tried were also very good. If you like tartar sauce, make sure you get some of theirs, it is home made and it's to die for. I would give this place an 11/10 if I could. Cheers!
I am English and very picky about my F&C. I have yet to find a truly authentic version this side of the pond...until now. These are 100% the same as what you get in a chippy back home. In fact, probably healthier as the owner changes the oil every day (what?) and cuts, batters and fries the fish to order (seriously) - so you have to wait 15 minutes but it's so worth it. I just wish they had mushy peas...that would make it a 10. (it's 20 yards east of Coxwell on Dundas).
Their fish is well cooked and flavourful. A little bit of England in Toronto.
What I love best about this traditional fish n' chip shop is that they make each order fresh - slicing the fish, dipping in batter and then frying - no heat lamps! It takes a little longer to receive your order, but the wait is why the quality is so good. Our family has fish n' chip Fridays as a treat with coleslaw and peas. Yum.
Fish here is great. But the chips are a bit on the greasy side. Their coleslaw is possibly the best I ever had. But the service isn't that fast.
I had a serious craving for fish and chips, but being new to the this area, I thought i'd look on-line to see where we should try first. A short drive later, we landed at British style fish and chips. The rave reviews are well deserved! I am a french fry fiend, but for the first time I ate all my fish first. I would have to say this is the best fish and chips i've ever had. Quick, friendly service, and the food was still piping hot when we got home. We will be back!!
Great food! Traditional/vintage feel back to childhood, a nice walk down the memory lane.
