My family and I love love love this place! Everything is made from scratch and sourced out from local farms. Lots of love goes into each dish and it shows.

Great Everything

I have enjoyed Ridgeway's for years. I realize it's really just the breakfast I'm reporting on, but I have always found it perfect in every way, and served by attractive, friendly, and energetic waitresses, who bring a smile with their coffee top-ups. It seems to me that people from out-of-town are looking for something exotic, and give the thumbs-down when it's not up to their lofty expectations. Well, I'm just an ordinary guy who appreciates this establishment, and I just wanted to say so.

Pet Friendly but Disappointing

Looks nice. It's got a patio, and big picture windows. A big plus is that they allow you to bring your pet inside. Most places only allow that on the patio, or make you tie up your dog outside. When we asked, the owner (Paul, I think) let us bring Dobby (our pet Bijou) in with us. You almost never see restaurants allow that outside of Toronto. That's worth an extra star for service by itself. The service was ok. The waitress kept our drinks well stocked, and even offered a bowl and plate for Dobby once the food arrived. That was nice. Now the bad news. It's not exactly "fast" food. It took nearly an hour from ordering to the food being served. That could be forgiven if we'd ordered something difficult or if it was busy. However, we were the only ones in the place. I had a burger and poutine fries. My girlfriend had pasta and salad. We shared an order of wings. Nothing I'd consider particularly difficult or time consuming. The portions were a bit small for the price and the quality was a bit problematic. First, there's the burger. It's described as being flame broiled and made from fresh ground beef. Flame broiled, but it's either got a lot of filler or they ground a fair bit of organ meat (liver?) into it. The texture was a bit mushy. Dobby was ok with it, so it wasn't a total loss. I don't know. For an $8 burger, I kind of expected more. Next the Poutine. The gravy is obviously bouillon gravy. There's the unmistakeable tang and dryness that's a tell-tale sign of the heavy MSG and salt used in bouillon and instant gravy mixes. The "cheese curds" are processed mozzarella sticks. Real mozzarella is a good substitute, but the processed cheese version just melts way too much and has no real texture to it. I guess it's ok if you know what you're getting ahead of time, but it's not really poutine. The wings were a decent size. I guess I'd describe them as "pizzeria style" chicken wings. The sauce tasted like your typical mix of Frank's RedHot + butter + sugar. The wings themselves were definitely refried, but are a step above the chicken jerky that you usually see at bars and pizzerias. The food wasn't really worth the money in my opinion. I do realize there's always a certain deviation between the marketing and the actual product. However, I wish the food was a bit closer to what was promised. The prices aren't unreasonable. It's just that for what they're charging, the quality should be better. As with all things, your mileage may vary, since there's a lot of difference in quality between the different dishes. As with most places, I'm sure they have some specialties that they do fairly well (like the wings) and others that are absolute rubbish (the burger and "poutine") On the positive side, they do welcome pets, which is a bit unusual. Most restaurants won't allow dogs inside. This can be a big plus on hotter days, and I wish more restaurants allowed this. Thinking back, I'm not sure if this is a regular thing, or if the owner just let Dobby in because we were the only ones there. You might want to ask first.

I have been eating at Ridgeway's Restaurant for...

I have been eating at Ridgeway's Restaurant for at least 8 years and have always had a great meal & a good time. This past weekend we took some friends from out of town and everything we ate was absolutely fabulous. The amount of food that you get for the price is amazing. My husband had the ribs, which he says are the best he's had and their crab cakes are out of this world. The service was excellent and the newly decorated dining room looks great. Can't wait to eat outside on the back patio. We were unable to because of the renovations. GREAT PLACE FOR BREAKFAST, LUNCH OR DINNER
