I cant say enough good things about this restaurant! I always take out of town visitors there because I would rather visit than cook, and their food is superb. They are friendly, reasonably priced, the service is great, and the atmosphere is cheerful.
great place to eat delicious food good portions
Worst meal to date, my sister's bread was stale and my Mom's bun so cold almost frozen. When we complained nothing! When we ordered she didn't ask if we wanted drinks forgot my sister's fries. Machines going on in the basement could feel it thru the floor. Not enjoyable at all. Not worth the 1/2 hour wait in line and then almost half an hour for our food. Said we aren't happy want the bill its been 10 minutes. Never coming back
No one cares.. if there was a good restaurant with good deli this place would be dead asap. This is the only deli in the word that will not sell meat by the pound for take out. Thia is the only deli in the world that will not give you the meat the way you want it. it just comes as they are cutting this no spice mess. If you like it lean and the fat piece is on the cutting mach. then it is just to bad for you.Stay away this is really bad and dirty.
portions and quality great. Service quick and friendly, don't know how they do it. Definitely the choice for a dine out or take out, no disappointments
Decent tasting food tho the odd meal I find to be a bit bland. Its super busy tho probably due to its large portion sizes. Its your typical home style cooking
Been coming here for years, always good food and a good time. Food portions are huge, and it's always delicious. The turkey dinner and chicken parma are so good, and they're always a challenge to finish. For a lighter meal, one of their salads with their house dressing is a good choice.
Great food. Get there early because it's a busy spot. Going there for over 25 years. Alway great.
Teddy's is an Oshawa landmark, a restaurant that all people love....and I will never understand why. I have a friend who constantly assures me it's the best restaurant in Oshawa; so I decided I'd put my previous experiences here aside and try Teddy's with a clean slate. If you have not been, I will let you experience this through my eyes: First, when you enter, you are greeted by yesterdays pies in a grimy case, under a sickly yellow light. Yum. Then the hostess or waitress seats you and gives you a glass of lukewarm tap water. She then proceeds to start the customary pleasantries: 'How are you?' 'Drinks?' 'Does this look infected?' etc etc. All the while, not actually changing her facial expression from that of emphatic indifference. As you look around this place, you notice the decor. Portraits of Hollywood classics like Stallone and Eastwood, then huge jars of preserves, then a sailboat WHERE THE HELL AM I? Another thing you notice as you look around is that everyone is silent; like they're having the worst day of their lives. Then you order, get your food, and find out why. To say the food is bland is an insult to so many great bland foods out there. I ordered the 'Pizza Burger' what arrived was a dried out patty on half a kaiser, with some Heinz tomato sauce, and a slice of processed white cheese. It tasted as good as it sounds. Your waitress then returns, sometimes the same woman, sometimes not. She looks like she would rather be anywhere else in the world. She unceremoniously drops off your check and thanks you for coming out of the side of her neck as she briskly walks away. You go up to the counter to pay, do a double take at the amount of your bill, amazed that something a two year old could make just cost you half a day's pay. The cashier is pleasant, asks you how everything was. You lie and say 'Fine.'. Then, you walk out the door, into the crisp Oshawa air, and die a little inside.
The first time we went to Teddy's about a dozen years ago was like an epiphany. We haven't had a bad meal there ever and the service, food and atmosphere are rock solid consistent. The only problem we have ever encountered is that we are always so full from the entree that we rarely have room for desert.... there is take out though, hmmm
I'v been going to Teddy's for 5 year steadily. I usually get take out. I know this sounds boring but I almost always get the turkey Dinner. I gotta say, the dinner it self i would give a 8/10. But value wise i would give the dinner 9.5/10. You definitely get you're money's worth. I noticed last time i went they changed their diner buns. These rolls seem more soft. I don't know if they changed the rolls for good but I hope they keep the new ones.
Have visited Teddys a few times. Always excelent service and the food it just plain ol home style cooking. Nothing 5 star cooking, nothing bad. Very homie kinda meals and always ample portions. We arrived and were at the 20 min. wait sign and waited maybe 10 tops. Seated and enjoyed 2 great meals and was not rushed or uncomfortable. Atmosphere is unique but not dirty or uncomfortable. Place is packed so they must be doing something right. Always enjoy, and will retun many more times.
This is defiantly a local landmark. I’ve never lived in Oshawa but I have been to Teddy’s many times throughout my life. If you’re looking for large portions… look no further! My Fiancé and I love the turkey dinner, and I always leave with leftovers. The food is good but by no means is it mind blowing. It is very “homey” tasting, which isn’t bad, but not incredible. I don’t remember ever coming here without having to wait in a line-up, but with that said, the line moves rather quickly. My only REAL complaint about Teddy’s is the waitresses (all the men are in the kitchen, there are no waiters) Yes, the food is prompt, they ask the right questions, but they are over worked and stressed out. I’m not saying it’s their fault, but they are filled with tension. I often wonder what the employers are like.
It was a real let down! Food was flavorLESS. The speggetti tasted like it came out of a can, the roast beef was tough and no flavor, burger was greasy buns were stale, not much flavor to the coconut cream pie. The only good thing were the milkshakes and the frozen fries. The whole meal was brought in a big rush. It seemed like a quick turnaround restaurant.
Teddy's wound up being what I expected from all of the reviews on Restaurantica. Thank you. Best description I can give is diner style food in a FAMILY restaurant. We were in town for a gymnastics competition and wanted a good, reasonable meal. First off, be prepared to wait although not too long. Standing in line had us grinning. Just the feel of the place, you can see into the kitchen from the line and the older lady walking the line checking to see how many in each party. So we're moving up the line past the "20 minute" sign, then the "10 min" sign then around the corner and there's the TV overhead running pictures of the meals and describing how they are prepared. All in all just over 25 minutes on a Saturday night. We get to the front of the line, taken to our table and almost immediately there's our server. Big smile, genuine how are you and a drink order (I didn't ask but I don't think they serve alcohol as I didn't see any bar or beer logos but frankly you won't care). Having watched the menu roll on the TV we were ready to order when she came back with our drinks. Food came quickly with a quick review from our server as each plate was put down, a nice touch. Veal parm w/spaghetti - tender veal with nice breading, healthy serving of pasta with a mild meat sauce. Turkey dinner special - pile of well prepared brown and white turkey meat, pile of tasty stuffing, peas and carrots, steamed mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. Roast beef dinner - good serving of beef, gravy, roast potatoes (so so but this would be a preference thing), veggies and horseradish. I ALSO had a corned beef on rye on the side instead of dessert. My wife and daughter shared a chocolate mousse cake and enjoyed it very much. I was tempted by the coconut cream pie, looked so good every time one walked past the table, but it just wasn't in me to eat any more. I asked if it could be made to go and was told no, the whipped cream is fresh made and would not make it to go. Maybe next time.... Having worked in the restaurant business both high end and low end I really enjoyed dining here. The food at Teddy's is not the best I have ever had HOWEVER it is very good and very satisfying for a very reasonable price. Watching the people working in the kitchen and on the floor moving with purpose efficiently preparing and serving meals with smiles on their faces left me with this impression: the people at Teddy's genuinely enjoy their jobs making people happy by serving them good food in a welcoming environment. Thank you Teddy's.
Absolutely awesome deli sandwiches! Their dinners are great too. Every time we go we are amazed at how great our food is! The sandwiches are really our favorite since we have a love of deli food, but the dinners are great too; home-style comfort food for sure. Their salad dressing is awesome; we always buy a bottle when we are there. And their pies are to die for! We sometimes take a whole coconut cream pie home with us. Enjoy!
Having eaten at Teddy's on only one prior occasion, I was unsure of what to expect. On my prior trip to Teddy's the foor and portion size was great. The service was at best fair. Today however I tried to arrange for a larger group (15) and the customer service was nothing short of terrible. The first woman that I spoke with was very short with me and just kept repeating we don't take reservations. I then asked to speak with a manager and she was completely rude. I did not even have time to ask her anything and all I would get out of her (again) was we don't take reservations. She would not let me ask any other questions of her, nor would she give me any further information of when would be a good time for my party to arrive to avoid a huge line up. These people need to take a course in customer service. Finally for the wait staff at Teddy's; I have worked in numerous different restraunt settings, and large parties pay well. Do the math I had banked for about 30 dollars per person (including drinks). That works out to around $450. Now figure out the 15% tip for yourself, $67.50. Now take into account the fact that the company that employs me is paying therfore it's not my money you would have gotten an even $100 for the difficulties that large parties present. No wonder all of the negative ( and some of the positive) reviews on here all mention poor wait service. I would be pretty disgruntled too if at Christmas time my employers would not let large parties pre-book. Get with the times Teddy, good food, good prices, good atmosphere, poor business practices.
My family has been to Teddy's hundreds of times over the past 10 years and it's always been great. The only thing to complain about is the typical massive line at peak times but it's definitely worth your while to stay. The portions are massive, I always get a full meal plus something to take to work the next day. Not everything on the menu is for me personally (liver? ew!) but some of my favourites include beaf sirloin, hot beef on a bun, and the turkey dinner with stuffing. Soups here are amazing also.
I really don't get it. Everyone raves about this place, and each time we've been, we found the food was pretty bad (my husband, son, and I). Each time, we figured maybe it was just what we ordered. So we went back and tried again, a total of 3-4 times. Each time, the food was bad. I love veal parmesan. When I ordered it at Teddy's, it came swimming in a bowl of some kind of gravy. And the flavour wasn't good. A friend of ours said the same thing - the food is lousy, and the presentation not at all appetizing. But so many people can't be wrong. Different tastes for different folks, I guess.
Teddy's is a classic in Oshawa's landscape! Huge meals consisting of comfort food. The service is super fast and they are always busy. Try to go at off times or if you find you are hungry when everyone else is too then try the take out. If you call 10-15 mins before picking up it is usually ready just before you get there. My spouse and I usually split the chicken parm dinner. It has it's own charm. The food is not about being the best but it is like a hug from grandma...The soups are pretty tasty and the pickles are amazing. The strawberry pie with whipped cream is divine! I like the Sole as well as the Turkey dinner with mashed potatoes. Veggies are a bit overcooked except maybe the peas.
