Delicious hamburgers! Definitely try The Original as a bare minimum!
The best breakfast in durham, farmers breakfast with massive sausages usually TKOs me for the next couple hours...
I was looking for a new place to enjoy breakfast (as my regular dive, well took a dive) the reviews on here were great and now I know why! Great service, great food, great price! Lol even the other customers were friendly and recommending their favorites! Great place! Please check it out!!!! You will not be disappointed! And leave a great review!
Our kids BEG us to go here. We have been many times and have always enjoyed the food. We have had many different items from the menu. The chicken fingers and fries are an all time fav. The GMC breakfast is unbeatable for taste and value. The portions are always VERY generous even in the kids meals. The staff is very friendly. The only drawback that I could mention is that the place is small and some might say dated. But it is what it is! A small diner in downtown Oshawa. The location and size doesn't stop us from going or enjoying our meals.
My husband read other reviews praising this place so we decided to try it. It was extremely disappointing. My husband ordered the peameal and eggs, I ordered the chicken ceasar wrap, and I ordered the chicken fingers, onion rings and fries for my son. My husbands meal looked like a pigs trough! He had 1 good piece of peameal and a couple of other 'scraps' (burned on one side). The eggs weren't bad and the homefries were storebought and flavourless. The chicken fingers and onion rings were also store bought but decent. My wrap looked promising with a lovely tortilla and crisp lettuce. I took one bite and disaster! Yes it was fresh athe dressing was good, even the chicken was pretty good (not much of it though) but the kicker was the fact they had the gall to add fake bacon bits! Really?! This place serves bacon all day and decides to add fake bits in the wrap!! Embarassing and disgusting! Especially for the $9 something price tag (considering you don't get any sides with it). The the french fries- which I wouldn't even call them that- was like a plate of bits that they scraped off the bottom of the pan! Greasy little bits for an extra $2.50! The servers were nice enough and the ambience was what is expected for a diner but definately the worst food we've had for some time. We would never go back.
I am a regular customer at the Rainbow for many years now and the food is made by real people. Not the conveyor belt type food that comes out of a lot of places these days. I love seeing a place that doesn't get complacent. The new menu they have put out puts fast food to shame. If you are on a diet, don't bother going but if you love to eat check out the OBSCENE food section on the menu.
Menu was just recently updated with additional meals added. Having travelled extensively throughout North America, visiting independent restaurants, The Rainbow rates right in there with the best of them. Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives show comes to mind! I've been dining here since 1975 and have always met pleasant staff and had a great meal. Good value for your money!
Early last Friday evening my wife and I stopped by for a meal. For a place that promotes "fresh" I'm thinking they should check the definition. The onion rigs were "hard" and the waitress confirmed our suspicion... FROZEN. Fish special... frozen. The fries looked hand cut but were not very fresh tasting. All this plus one of the "hefty" cooks spent a lot of time showing off and flirting with the new waitress.
The review below was the reason I tried the Rainbow. The food was good, great value, and great service. I will definitely go back, however based on the breakfast I had and a scan of their full menu, I wouldn't say this is the kind of place you would see on a food show. The menu was basic diner fare, with no really distinguishing signature dishes to speak of, and there was no evidence that the food was made from scratch to qualify it as being TV-worthy (example: the baked beans were most certainly canned). Make no mistake, this place is worth visiting, but I wouldn't expect Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives to be shooting there any time soon.
A no nonsense place in this franchise-ridden world. Nice to know its there when I'm really hungry and don't want to have to get a second mortgage to go out to eat.
I was in need of a burger, a large burger at that, and i was short on cash, and out of the corner of my eye I see The Rainbow Resteraunt, I'd never eaten there before, I walk in and the friendly waitress instantly gets down to taking my order, so I ordered the peameal banquet burger, the service was rather quick, now on to the burger, now for the roughly 6$ price I was expecting some small run of the mill burger with tiny pieces of bacon, but boy was I wrong, the burger was HUGE!!! and the bacon was THICK, it was cooked to perfection, tasted great, and i was completely full afterwards, I am going to recommend eating here to everyone I know
came in for an early lunch on a Tuesday and tried the special of the day. Excellent and filling! (good coffee too!)
It's a cozy little restaurant with 50's style decor. It's misleading from the ouside. The food we ordered was super fast and the service was excellent.
usually go for the breakfast but decided to try something new. really really good!
This is by far the BEST Breakfast anywhere!! Once you have this breakfast for this price, you will realize that everywhere else is 'ripping you off'! The Peameal and eggs I like to call 'Pork chops and eggs'! He gives you four pieces that are about a 1/2" - 3/4" thick! What a Breakfast. I recommend this place to all my friends and family. Everyone I have introduced this place to has raved about the food. Not only are the breakfast great lunch and dinner meals are huge portions of good old home cooking. Highly recommed this restaurant. The only downfall, that I have gotten over is the decor. The restaurant looks like a 'Greasy spoon'. However, if you can see past that and are wanting great food, then give it a try.
Awsome food, huge portions and great prices. I'll definately go back
This is quite frankly the most surprising place I've ever stumbled across. The burger I ordered was huge; slathered in cheese and toppings with a 12 oz patty and two equally sized pieces of Canadian bacon. The taste was amazing, easily as good as the best barbeque, but super messy. I couldn't finish it in one attempt and the whole thing cost only $5. Unbelievable, I take my friends there now to show them how awesome it is.
Absolutely the best Shepherds pie I've ever had. Nice service. Reasonably priced. Will go back!
For $5 and change I get a full meal with friendly and fast table service. Without a doubt in my mind the best value for my money! I am a Rainbow Regular.
Excellent food! The sausages are excellent. The only thing that I would change....use the thick toast! Poached eggs are always cooked just right! Thank you for your consistent quality!
