We have been eating at Coriander green for over a decade and this place gets better and better. Recipes, ambience and customer service is amazing every time and we would definitely recommend it. Best Indian food here in Canada ??
This is an excellent east Indian feast in downtown of Oakville. Food is amazing and worth your very penny. Must go.
I understand the rent in downtown Oakville is astronomical but 15-19 per curry dish, not including rice or naan is way to high for Indian. Especially when you only get 4-5 small pieces of lamb in the $18 etree and the rest is just liquid. Other than that the food is good, not the best Indian I have had but good nonetheless. However, $60+ for a couple small curry dishes and rice is crazy. Up the servings or lower the prices and I might be back.
The food just isn't authentic Indian, which is a disappointment because the location is so central. Too pricey. Would suggest, owner does a weekend buffet to make it more affordable. Grill platter....everything was overdone. Onion bhaji...not authentic.
We visited this beautiful restaurant couple of weeks ago on our friends' recommendation. To be honest, I got a little scared by reading the last review but it could not have been more wrong. Everything from the food quality to taste, from service to decor and everything else that matters was exceptional and very impressive. I love Indian food and have tried a lot of Indian restaurants around GTA but this was without a shadow of a doubt, THE BEST INDIAN food we have ever eaten and although we were stuffed, our tounges kept asking for more. I am sure we will be back very soon and I surely can't wait.
You can see my full review below, but just to indicate how deplorable the price gouging at this restaurant is --they serve a SAMOSA(little pastry with potato) and a bit of chickpeas on top for 7 DOLLARS!!! as an appetizer. Do you know how much samosas are at MOST indian restaurants --cooked fresh for you to eat!? 3 for a dollar!!! So basically they're giving you one samosa for the price that you should be receiving 21 samosas!! This is just criminal.
Okay so there's actually not a lot of competition for Indian food in Oakville so I suppose this is why this pretentious and absolutely mediocre Indian restaurant is even still in business. Here's an account of my experience: My two friends an I visited Coriander Green for lunch --we ordered four dishes(chicken vindaloo, palak paneer, chickpea curry, and eggplant curry) as well as 3 naans and rice. Essentially all four dishes tasted the same with very slight variation and were drowned in the same fairly tasteless sauce dripping with stale bitter tasting oil. Now I wasn't expecting haute cuisine, but the food was adequate at best! The restaurant was also dead empty during the heat of the lunch hour, so that should have served as a warning sign. Now the amount we ordered at any other Indian restaurant would be more than enough for 3 people, Indeed, it would be enough for 5. But not only was the food average, the portions were TINY!! We basically received tiny bowls of each dish priced in the ridiculously inflated rate of 25-30 dollars a dish!!! Usually , if you order rice at an Indian restaurant, you just do one order which is enough to cover a few people --but we had to order TWO servings, which still wasn't enough because each serving of rice, priced at a ridiculous 13 dollars a serving was basically the size of a cup! I'm not exaggerating. It's just a basic steamed rice with some bloody frozen peas thrown in and they call it a "special vegetarian pillao rice --yeah right, I was born at night, but not last night buddy). So it especially irritated me that having received totally mediocre food, we not only paid double the amount, but also ended up going home pretty hungry. Our bill, for three people at lunch came to a ridiculous $120!!! I mean we weren't getting lobster here --this is mostly small portions of a bit of chicken and beans and spinach! I have a strong feeling that the positive reviews on this site are written by the owners to drum up a dying business --because there is no way there could be such a discrepancy amongst the reviews. For example, (and I am not affiliated with the restaurant industry in ANY way, except as a consumer) if you go to A-1 Indian restaurant at Trafalger and Dundas in Oakville(which unfortunately does only vegetarian) and you order their vegetarian platter for $7.99 you get a large platter(basically what you would get for 3 people at Coriander Green) of fresh and tasty vegetarian indian food, 2 naans and all the fixins for what you pay like 80 dollars at CORIANDER GREEN. I think this restaurant thinks they can get away with such poor quality food and extreme price gouging because there are no other Indian restaurants in the downtown Oakville area so they assume people are not aware of what Indian food prices should be. This restaurant is disgraceful frankly.
My fiance and I visited this restaurant back in September of 2008, so we recently decided to give it another try. We should have gone to another Indian restaurant. Quite frankly, better value for the money and food can be found elsewhere in Oakville. Sadly, Coriander Green follows the "recipe" development of so many other restaurants out there, meaning that they started out excellent and have now begun the slow slide into cuisine oblivion. The Palak Paneer that we had was mediocre at best, tasting instead like they just warmed up some preformed cheese paties and put sauce on top of it. To be fair, the Lamb Biryani and Chicken Vindaloo were both done reasonably well. While both were not excellent, they weren't too bad either. What ticked me off the most was when I asked for more papadum. I was informed by the waitress that we would have to pay extra in order to receive another paltry order of them. I find this to be exceedingly cheap as papads are relatively inexpensive. They should have been offered free of charge, much like a load of buns or rolls would be offered in a more mainstream restaurant. I presume that they are now attempting to skimp a little bit on the quantities. I do not like it when restaurants do this, as customers always know what their value for their money should be! And finally, the service was fair. It was neither poor nor excellent. If they wanted to make it excellent, the waitress would have checked back with us more often. All in all, Coriander Green was mediocre east Indian cuisine. I feel that my hard earned dollars are worthy of finer dining, so would advise others to look elsewhere in Oakville and Mississauga for better.
The decor and music were lovely and the service was friendly and prompt (it happened to be bad weather so it was not crowded). The onion bhaji was not the best I've ever had but the main dishes were fantastic! The spicing was very distinct in each dish and with just the right hotness level (We asked for mild to medium and they got it bang on). The chana dahl was the best I've ever had and the butter chicken was creamy and rich without being oily. The aloo gobi was not overcooked ( I have found disintegrating cauliflower to be a problem with this dish in many other restaurants). Everything was fresh, fresh, fresh. The food took a while to come and considering it was not a very full house, I am guessing that much of it is made fresh for each customer. This is a great place to go if you are making a night out of your meal and have good company with lots to talk about. If you just want to come in and eat and leave quickly, I would not recommend it as you will probably not like the wait for your food. My only criticism is that for the price of the typical dish ($15), the portions could have been more generous. The naan was delicious but a bit on the small side for $5 for one. However, if you are looking for a special meal and you want ambiance, quality, and flavour, I would highly recommend this restaurant.
thanks God we made the reservation ahead!!!! restaurant was beautiful and packed ,we got the window table, aroma of sizzling platers were makin us hungry so,we ordered one aswell with a bottel of there house chardoney recommended by lovely lady server...main course arrived littel late i guess because they were busy but every thing we ordered was awesome and was cooked on order we could taste the fresh ingreadients .very nice presentation, love those g naans,we cant wait to go back.....loved it!!! long live coriander green...
I find the food great every time I visit and like the service as the owners seem to care. I always wish there were more people enjoying this restaurant as Oakville needs more places like this. The atmosphere is 'front room' comfortable and its great to be able to start and end with a visit to the pub over the road. There is no doubt that the food is prepared 'on demand' as its fresh and testy every time. If you want an honest, indian experience with service from people that care try out Coriander Green - so they can get one more waitress to help the charming lady always working so hard there.
This was probably one of the tastiest Indian restaurants we've experienced. Everything was fantastic and seemed fresh and authentic. My main criticism is that I think the food is really overpriced. It was quite busy there, especially for the late hour. The service was generally very good except for when it came time to get the bill -- then our server was too busy with everyone else and we were ignored for a long time.
I have been to this place first time in my life .First of all such a nice location near the Lake & entering into the restaurant such a warm, cozy & nice feeling u will get. Now come to the food , amazing appealing, delicious, delightful, dishy. Bottom line is its very good & FRESH Another good thing is dishes are served in such a good manner & on accurate time. They are always there for u. I have recommended to lot of my friends too & I am going there again this weekend.
If you want to PAY MORE AND GET LESS well you have found the perfect place. The prices are ridiculous for the quality and quantity you get. The grill was pathetic, the chicken over cooked, the spices used in the grill was anything but tandoori or for that matter Indian. Instead of seek kebab we got sausage slices being passed off as seekh kebab. The other dishes were below par and nothing to write home about. The portions were small and barely enough to go with one nan. Considering the quality that was probably a blessing in disguise. The rice was served in a small bowl as well. The Indian beer (Cheetah) was actually brewed in Toronto and the cost of $ 7 for a bottle was much more than you would pay in an upscale place. There is no client parking and the decor and ambience was pretty ordinary. As an Indian and having grown up with authentic Indian fare I would not recommend this place to anyone as they are so many other places in the vicinity where you can get better and cheaper Indian food.
My wife and I are both Indian, and we have eaten at a lot of Indian restaurants. Most of the dishes did not taste bad, but ARE NOT worth the price that you pay. The Roti was paper thin and cardboard hard which is unacceptable. Naan was not bad. Beer was $7, and non alcoholic drinks were $5. There are no spirits on the menu which we found kind of odd. We tried ordering the Daal, but they had none. Service was extremely slow, and took the fun out of the whole evening. I will not be recommending this place to anyone, especially when there are so many other good East Indain restaurants out there!
I have to admit I agree with a couple of the reviews that stated the service was poor and slow. Actually, it's beyond slow everytime I go!!!! And by the time you FINALLY get your food (which is quite good), you've spent more money on their ridiculously overpriced drinks (Iced Tea), then on the dinner. That doesn't make a pleasant dining experience for me.
It was really good! Great service, good presentation and delicious food!
I got some food that looked like it was made from ground up carrots wrapped in bologna. Now I read here that someone else also had bologna in their food. I just don't get it.
we have heard so many good things about this restaurant from friends and went to check it out, outstanding food, nice and cozy atmosphere, bit on pricy side but finaly, worth visiting.we loved it so much that we have decided to visit coriander green at least once every week.
absolutely great place... very calm and friendly atmosphere, best indian food ever tasted, looking forward to visit again!!!
