Banquet burger and fries - For classic burger with cheese and bacon and fries with all the fixings. They do it the old fashioned way. When you need your fix you get it.
I used to love this place and ate there at least once a month. Then I began seeing a lot of new faces behind the counter and the food was not as good as before. The quality of the meat used in the burgers is unsatisfactory; I can taste the difference from how it was a few months ago. The overall hygiene of the restaurant is substandard compared to other greasy spoons, and I will not be returning there again.
I've been here before because it's the best Greek family run when it comes to souvlaki and gyros. Overall the place is clean, open kitchen, food i order was homemade(no factory made). There's one cook here that seems to know his way around the kitchen. My Gyro is perfect and the onion rings(homemade). From my heart the food is very good here.
My husband and I love this place! It can be a bit pricey compared to chain places, but we've never had bad food. Great Gyros and Burgers. Nice family owned business. To bad the booths are too small I can't fit a car seat so I can bring my new born with us, we are forced to get it to go now, every time.
If you want a real burger that is thick, juicy and big on taste then this is the place. Forget all those other fancy, 30 toppings nonsense places that seem to be popping up everywhere, their burgers are lame compared to the charcoal pit, trust me. Old school, Greek family run for 40 years. You can't beat it with a stick. Souvlaki, gyros, burgers, they all kick butt here and it's priced as it should be, reasonable.
this old school diner never fails to let me down!took my kids in saturday for lunch and i had a marinated pork souvlaki on a pita, with tzadziki sauce and onions! fabulous while my kids had their usual cheeseburger combos with onion rings.we all had great lunches and this place is spotless and clean, something i always insist is a mark of the kichen which is by the way open so you can watch them prepare your food, and pick out you favourite toppings. we will be back many more times in the future.
The burgers and chicken souvlaki are always good. They take there time and do it right. Fresh cut toppings are good. A little more variety would be nice. Never had a bad experience with them. Other then it sometimes takes a long time
The Charcoal Pit is an average restaurant. The people behind the counter really don't seem to want to be there, the decor could use an update and the food is on average good. Where they fall down is consistency. Everytime I go I get a different quality of food so I can't really review it. Last time I went I got the chicken burger with fries and was very letdown. The bun was stale and my burger was much to fried while on the other hand the fries were perfect. The price is reasonable because you do get alot of food. Needs new staff who make the same good food every time
The fries were the greasiest I've ever had in my life. The burger was ok, but the patti was thin and not very good meat. At a place called the "charcoal pit", and based on other reviews here, I expected a real thick BBQ style burger.
Best place to have dinner along the lakeshore in Burlington, and free parking!!!
I couldn't believe how expensive it was and while the burgers were excellent, the poutine was disgusting.
Love the cheese burgers and fries, husband loves the souvlaki dinner. have been going here since I was a kid. I hope they come out to Alberta too Wendy. I miss the food.
I have since moved from the area and miss the charcoal pit so much I looked it up online. I would love to walk in and be greated by the fun and smiles and have a taste of the food I miss so much. Charcoal: Ever think of expanding to Alberta???
This meal cost about $10 and you get salad, chicken (hot off the BBQ) rice, potatoes and tatziki sauce. The taste was great and the amount could feed two people. The same meal at a downtown greek restaurant was double the price and the Pit was better
Even though this place is small it is a great place to eat..... Been going for years and will continue.....
I used to eat here all the time....they had the best greek chicken salad. I think its under new ownership because the salad was smaller and not nearly as good. I wont be going back
