I am Japanese and I like this restaurant! I have ordered Sushi only. I haven't tried other menus yet. Sushi is good quality and service is good. I pay around 10 dollars for sushi. (5 pieces of sushi and 8 pieces of maki rolls) It's very very affordable. If other people complain that it's not the best quality, this is not the place to go. You can't get the best quality for 10 bucks. Please go to restaurant owned by Japanese. However, if you're looking for affordable, decent quality sushi, I highly recommend Bento Box. I've been to 4 other Japanese restaurants in Burlington but I only go to Bento Box now.
Just moved to Burlington recently! My wife's friend recommended this little sushi place to us. So we went tonite for dinner. It is a very quiet Monday nite, so we were the only table at 7:30pm. The service sucks and the food is just absolute garbage! You can tell right away the fish is not fresh at all! Stay away from them if you can! For those who rated this place as good, I suspect you either have no taste bud or you have no idea what real Japanese is like! Very disapponiting experience! We will never go back again! =(
Stopped in for lunch on a weekend and was very happy. The food was great in taste and presentation in the bento. The service was prompt and friendly. I will definitely be back again.
I popped in on a lunch break from work after not visiting for a long time and was very pleasantly surprised. The service is much better than before, even though my favourite employee is still there (everyone else stepped up their game!). Upon commenting on this, I was told that the restaurant was taken over by new owners and they changed a few things. Well, it couldn't have been better! Change is definitely good in this case! The most impressive thing though, was the food! The portions have grown in size and everything was fresher and very well presented. All for a ridiculously reasonalbe price! It's a nice break for a fast lunch that you don't feel like you're sitting in a fast food restaurant. Quality food, amazing portions and great service. With a little bit of redecorating and sprucing up, this could very well be a nice restaurant instead of the stigma of a quick bite to eat.
One of the best restaurant in Burlington. I recommanded this restaurant all my friends and they all like it too!! Their service is great and food is great.
My boyfriend and I came in for dinner one night when the restaurant was about half full. He ordered the sushi and I ordered teriyaki. The sushi came out, and he was finished eating before I received a thing. Worst yet, the tables beside us (who sat after us) were served their teriyaki, sushi, etc and were finished before I even started! When I asked about my dinner after waiting 45 MINUTES, they told me they forgot and were working on it right away. Having had enough, I took it to go. We weren't even offered anything to compensate the fact that they FORGOT about my entire order! And to the person who said that people probably deserved to have poor service - how is that a constructive review?? If you're going to say something, back it up properly instead of making pointless statements.
Everything is perfect and everything is great! You can't get any better. The staff are amazing and anyone that thinks anything other than that is seriously mistaken. I wouldn't want to see any of the people that rated a 1 or 2 anyways in Bento Box. You probably all deserved to have poor service.
We've been coming to Bento Box for the last 2-3 years and have never been disappointed - dine in or take out. - Very fresh sushi/sashimi and good value for money. Tried some of our sushi this evening with brown rice and were pleasantly surprised. - Unagi don always delicious and they don't skimp on the portion. - Teriyaki dinner special is great value and, again, always good. - Mackerel was a very nice surprise as well, as this was the first time we tried it. Service is good and owners are very friendly. Beautiful little casual dining restaurant. We will no doubt return again and again.
Best sushi i have had in a very long time!!! And the detail in which they prepared the food! Delicious, fresh, beautifully prepared, i'm just sad i don't live closer or i'd be here several times per week :(
My wife and I ventured out on a Saturday evening in the snow and decided since we were out we would stop for dinner. We've been here on a few occasions and have generally been satisfied. The service this visit was sub-par. Even though there were no other customers, the staff seem unorganized and inefficient. Our meat was overcooked and dry, and very small in portion size. The california roll was average but the avocado was too ripe, making the roll quite mushy. As others have complained, the soup was basically hot water. We understand the day was slow, but the food tasted as though it had been sitting out all day. The rice was obviously reheated - both in the teriyaki as well as the sushi, but overall the flavours of everything was still okay. We might try it another night when they're a bit busier, but probably not.
Restarant is always clean and tidy. Staff is very friendly. Food was excellent and the staff waited on us with extreme politeness and very attentive.
Oh my goodness- this is the best sushi I have had in a LONG time. The vegetable teriyaki was delicious- and the staff are so sweet! I can't wait to go again!!
I visit this restaurant regularly. Their food and service is accurate. One of my facorite sushi restaurants.
This particular meal is fabulous; the teriyaki sauce is addictive. I've come here 20+ times and the service is always friendly and the food delicious.
Our first time visit and we decided to have a pre-valentine's dinner. My boyfriend loves sushi so we ordered a combo which was a variety of sushi and sashimi. Probably our worst experience with sushi ever. The presentation was poor, and the sushi was not cut properly - making it look squished. It didn't look appetizing. The fish didn't look fresh and certainly didn't taste fresh either. We were very disappointed in the quality considering the price was average - worked out to about $1/piece. There was a strange taste to the rice, and as one reviewer mentioned, the wasabi is rolled into little balls and made me nauseated thinking about hands touching my wasabi. Service was rushed and we felt like we were being kicked out.
We understand that it's Valentine's Day and it's going to be busy, but just because there are people waiting for a table, doesn't mean you have the right to rush us out of the restaurant. We are paying customers and should have the opportunity to enjoy our meal! We barely finished the food (which you can tell was put together in a hurried and poor manner due to the low quality and horrible presentation) when our table was cleared and cleaned! How rude! It ruined our Valentine's dinner being rushed out just so they can turn the table. Ridiculous service.
This "restaurant" has slipped so badly in recent years, I think there's a giant banana peel buried in the foundation of the building.
I'd rather go to the food court and eat Japanese food there. This was the worst quality of fish I've ever had. The service was overbearing and the food didn't taste good at all.
We had a wonderful meal. We have been to Japanese restaurants in the area (Hamilton, Oakville, and Toronto) and this is definitely now a favourite. The food was excellent, there was enough to choose from for our four year old child, and the adults really enjoyed the dishes. This was our first visit but our friends are regulars that always rave about the restaurant. The only downside was that it was busy with many pickup orders. However, it is worth the wait.
I have been to Bento Box dozens of times, and I think it is the best sushi place in Burlington. It is probably one of the least expensive sushi places in Burlington, but the food and service are the best. It is a very quiet unassuming restarant, but again.....an amazing place that I always go back to...try it yourself. The rockin rolls combo is great. great miso soup and green tea, and very nice staff.
