Would have given 0 stars if that was an option!Took my family to dinner tonight as a treat and ended up having to argue with the owner. My daughter is allergic to seafood, so we stay away from anything that obviously has sea food as well as anything directly beside it. Because of this my daughter only eats the pan fried noodles and some broccoli, which she loves. Now today we went and they had seafood right beside the noodles...oh uh. So I asked them if possible to grab some that wasn't put out
Have not been here for a couple of years, talk about going downhill fast...got there around 3:45 none of the dinner items were out, the meat in all the dishes was tough and barely edible. took them forever to bring out some sushi rolls and then they only brought a few with no seafood in them. 2 of the shrimp dishes had some funky flavour in them. The pot stickers were good. The desserts were decent (cant really mess that up) This used to be ok but now it is definately off my list, zero value.
Bought dinner for 4 people plus some xtras from take out since we live 30 mins away and it was new years eve. My daughter and myself within 12 hrs of eating the food threw it back up. My wife didnt get sick from it because she only eats the veggie dishes. The wings looked like they were made 2 days ago and the salt MSG was over the top in some dishes of food. Guess you can say there went 80 bucks worth of food down the toilet. Dont recommend this resturant at all. Thinking of talking it all back
Tonight my husband spent $40.00 on take out for diner. Nothing was edible. The chow mien was slimy and left an after taste in your mouth. The chicken legs had been fried so much that they were crispy straight thru as well it was so dark in color they went in the garbage along with the rest of the order. The fried rice was re fried dried out rice. Nothing was edible. It all went in the garbage. I rate this place as a minus. The previous owners were much much better.Had to give 1 star to post
The food here is absolutely a disgrace. Dried out or mushy , stale like it had been sitting out for two days and reheated, and no flavor whatsoever. The choices were very limited also compared to most buffets. I took relatives who were visiting from the States there for dinnner and I was never so embarrassed in my life.
Every time I'm going there, the has a bad tasting. It's getting worst. The only thing is good thar is the shrimps. Normally I'm not difficult for food but now I can't. I'm not going anymore.
There comes a time when duty sends out her call, and those who would not answer must be found accountable. This review is my answer to that call. Having suffered this ordeal of a restaurant i leave this message here as a warning to those who would dare make the same mistake. DO NOT eat at the north china buffet, there is nothing here that i would classify as edible, most of the food was either stale or unidentifiable, as in the chicken might as well be road kill or mister whiskers the neighbourhood cat. Save yourselves and turn away.
well where do i start, the sweet and sour pork and lemon chicken were dried out into unchewable pieces, also the chicken balls were hard as a rock and dry. Well at least you can be assured they were cooked. As for the battered fish it was mushy and raw i had to spit it out yuck. There were no shrimp dishes which i always look forward too other than cold shrimp with the shell on. I had to resort to eating onion rings to fill up. there red sauce it had a vinegary taste should be more sweet. The table arrangements are jammed together to close you cant comfortly get up and walk without bumping into people in an effort to get to the food. needles to say after complaining i did not receive an apology of any kind we just paid and left. i would never ever eat there ever again its a complete downer at least i know the food at McDonalds is cooked properly should have ate there instead.
After a long drive from Hamilton I was ready to eat anything, and this was in sight from where I had to go. As soon as my business was done I headed in, not realising that it was already 9:15 and they close at 9:30 on a Monday. After I had filled my first plate the hostess informed me of the closing time, but she said that I was welcome to fill up as many plates as I liked and eat at my leisure while they packed up. So I did, and washed them down with a Tsing Tao. I found the food to be the equal of other buffets I have visited, just wish I could have had more time, but that wasn't their fault.
I visit North China buffet on a regular basis. The food their is delicous for the price you pay. The service is fantastic, the waitresses and waitors are extremely friendly and are always prompt when bringing drinks and removing plates from the table even though they may have more then 15 tables at a time...as other resteraunts only have 4-5 tables at a time. For the best food go between 11:30 and 1pm, 3:30 and 7:30pm. If you have had a bad experience at North China Buffet I strongly encourage you to give it one more chance. If you are a vegetarian and complain about the variety of food you need to take a closer look, I am also a vegetarian and i feel this restaruant offers me plenty.
We like the "cheap chineese buffets". Occassionally, we visit a mandarin (at $25/person) for the Crablegs, etc, but the mainstay is the inexpensive buffet at $15/person (with tax). North China falls into this category. The selection is large, food is hot and fresh (weekend), and the service is cordial and efficient. Yes, there are the usual stupid items like french fries and onion rings, but you'll find those items on any buffet. however, there are enough good, quality choices that make this restaurant a good bet to visit. Vegetable dishes are fresh and crisp. I don't understand why the previous writer said the seating was really packed. I know some people write reviews without even visiting the establishment. Actually the tables and floor plan was quite "roomy" .....certainly no worse or better than any other restaurant. All-in-all, good value and a good feast.
If you're a fan of the 'pack em in, stuff em full' variety of cuisine, this is for you! I'll give the North China kudos for a large buffet... it's got lots of 'stuff' for sure, it's just... not that good. It's one of those Chinese places that seems like a great idea and then about an hour later you remember why you only go buffet once every year or two... Rather greasy, lots fried, and nothing with the distinct flavors that come when you take the time and care that decent cooking require. Another huge detractor for me was the dining room setup... They have crammed SO many tables into this monster wide open room (felt like I should hear someone shouting 'UNDER THE B.... 7') that every time you want to stand up you have to excuse yourself for running into someone or their chair. Not practical when you have to get up if you want to eat. If you enjoy a crowded feeding frenzy this place is for you!
I should have known after my 3 year old refused to eat anything. I tried everything once, none was good enough for a second helping let alone a second spoon full, and to top it off I got sick from this disaster of a chinese buffet
I love the chocolate cake and the drinks are good as well. These are probably the only reasons why I like going there!! I am a vegetarian so the choice isn't very wide with the buffet items! They don't even have like croutons or anything to put in a salad. I got the vegetable fried rice and there was chicken in it!
Didn't enjoy the food. Seemed as though the food had been sitting there all day. Service was so-so. The restaurant layout made it vary inconvient to and from buffet.
The food was great but service was horible, i normally wouldn't mention the waitresses name but the service was so horible that i feel others should know. Shalyn. She gave loads of attension to tables with young men rather then table with a family or young women, like my table. Our drinks took to long we had to extra napkins and i waited 10 minutes for the bill when it was obvious that we were ready!! Although the service was bad i would eat there again becuase the food was amazing, next time i will hopfully get a different waitress.
My parents are seniors and attend once a week. They love it and get great service by all the servers. They have their favourites. My parents love it because its clean and bright and they have such a variety in foods. They can get Canadian food like roast beef or chinese. they have lots in the salad bar which my mom loves. Dessert offers all kinds of ice cream flavours and cakes. We were there for thanksgiving. The key to eating at a buffet is to watch when things are replenished. I find the food equivalent to any Canadian chinese food place I've been to in Toronto or Belleville so I have no complaints. I've never had Chinese food that is hot hot. It doesn't come that way in Toronto either so I'm not sure why people are complaining. Also they can't be mothers because when does a mother ever eat a hot meal when she has kids. My son, my neice and nephew all enjoy eating there. The plates are always picked up when I go to get another serving. Yes the drinks come a little slower but if you go get your food, usually your drinks are on the table. its a buffet people what do you want for these prices. Its inexpensive place to eat and you don't have to leave the 20% tip that you now have to leave in restaurants where you have a server bring your meal. Don't forget to rub the gold cat for luck.
I've been there often for lunch and diner and find sometimes the food is not as hot as it can be and not as plentiful but fairly decent. Servers do not have the last say in if and when they can give anyone a discount for any reason. Owner has that say always and if the server does give you a discount then he/she can be severely reprimanded or worse for doing so.. they are not even supposed to talk to the customer for any time but just long enough to get their order.
Amazing food, drinks, and service !! and i ONLY paid $8 including tax !! over 125 items on their buffet. I know some ppl in this forum say they dont like this or that, but how many people like 100% of menu items at their favorite restaurant? we all have specific things we order each time we goto any restaurant. but at 8 bucks including tax i get to try everything on the menu and pick out what i like. trust me on this one, you will definately find SOMETHING you like at this place. check it out if you dont believe me, you cant go wrong with their super low prices.
Won Ton Soup was tasteless, as were the chicken balls with sweet & sour sauce and the lemon chicken. Mashed potatoes were like paste, roast beef was like rubber and tasted off. Spring rolls were horrid. Fried chicken and Chicken fried rice was tolerable. Shrimp was good as were the onion rings. Reids ice cream for dessert was the best part of the meal. Service was non existent.
