Just Us!, an old Halifax house on Spring Garden Road, is a community beacon; it's a place of reliable regulars and welcomed newcomers. Find a spot at the big communal table downstairs, or lodge yourself in an upstairs nook. Its sweets and pastries rotate on occasion, but there's usually a doughnut to be found in the mix. The next time it appears, try the sweet and chewy vanilla bean, and get a nice, hot dark roast and dip it with aplomb.

Just Us! Coffee Roasters Co-op was born of a passion for social justice in Latin America, and is now a coffee mainstay in Nova Scotia, incorporating employee ownership and fair trade practices. There are two Halifax locations: King’s Wharf (Dartmouth) and Spring Garden Road, but the head office is located in the Annapolis Valley, where they have their roastery, fair trade museum and chocolate workshop (they even make their own mocha and hot chocolate mix)! Cold brew is available seasonally and, if you’re looking for a really stellar free pour, this is the place.

A Nova Scotia start up, Just Us has their own roastery in the Annapolis Valley and has now opened several locations across the country. They’re all about ethically sourced fair trade coffee and tea, local, organic treats and a great place to sit and hang out. Not to mention, their own homemade delicious chocolate. Trust me, you’ll be back.
