I just don't get it. This place is well thought of by lots of people, and the group of which I was a part arrived just at lunch time. It's a small restaurant and was packed... after we came in, anyway. I asked the more-or-less local person in our group, and she assured me this was a very popular little place all the time, and had been for some years. So you'd think the staff would be used to the level of busy-ness, wouldn't you? You'd be incorrect.
We ordered our food and waited. And waited. And waited some more. Our food took nearly a full HOUR to arrive, and it wasn't as if anyone had ordered peking duck or something else exotic; I had the whole-clam platter, as did another fellow, others had the soup of the day and a salad, others had hot-hamburger sandwiches. What the heck took so long? This is all standard pub food and they should have been knocking it out at lightning speed!
Our meals finally arrived and looked very tempting; large steaming portions of food on nice large plates. The fries were OK— your standard café fries, and the cole slaw was actually very good indeed. I had been told that the clams were excellent, but you sure as heck couldn't convince me to order them again! There were lots of them, but they were overcooked and virtually tasteless.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anybody I liked. As I say, "I just don't get it". There are other restaurants in the area, so why eat here?
