Lofty Living Furniture

Weary of funnelling her energy into other people’s businesses, Shelagh Anderson-Vitomir decided to open her own interior design shop. Shelagh explains, “If I was going to work that hard, it wanted to work for myself.” In 2006, she took the plunge and launched  Lofty Living in New Westminster.

A longtime resident of New West, Shelagh was disappointed by the lack of retail shops in her neighbourhood. "Despite the fact that New West is conveniently located and central, there was really nothing local," she recalls. "If I wanted to get a birthday card, or anything, really, I had to leave the city. People would do their grocery shopping here, they might even have a dentist here, but they would travel to other areas for everything else.”

Lofty Living was borne of Shelagh’s desire to build a business of her own, and her desire to give New Westminsterites their own place to shop for furniture and other household treasures. Armed with a love of design and an entrepreneurial spirit, she envisioned a shop that would draw people from across the Lower Mainland.
