Zena Harty, owner of A Paper Notion, has nine grandchildren and, understandably, a lot of pictures and memories. She comes from a long line of crafty people and scrapbooking became a way for her to share those memories and keep them close while tapping into her artistic side. “Scrapbooks tell a story,” she explains. “It’s like journaling. Scrapbooks aren’t your typical photo album, they’re storybooks with pictures in them.”
Like many scrapbooking projects, A Paper Notion started at home. Creating albums for her family gave Zena a lot of experience in the craft, and she eventually started teaching others in her own home. The classes were a resounding success, so she decided to expand. “It was my family that eventually convinced me to open a shop,” Zena recalls. “We started looking at storefronts in the downtown area, ones with a lot of foot traffic, and we found the perfect place. So, my daughter Erin and I opened up a shop.”
