Even if you live far away from Grumans Catering and Delicatessen, by your second visit you’ll feel as though it’s your very own neighbourhood deli. Owner Peter Fraiberg is the familiar face greeting you at the door, checking to make sure your food is OK and hopping behind the deli counter to prepare take-out orders. Custromers expect to see him. “I’m here all the time,” says Fraiberg as he sits in a cozy booth situated beneath a framed photo from his parents’ 1952 wedding. He explains the deli is rooted in family and tradition, its recipes having being passed down through generations. It’s food his mother prepared for her family —real comfort food. “This is the food I was brought up on,” he says. The restaurant even bears Marilyn Fraiberg’s maiden name, and she stops by from time to time with new recipes.
We love coming here for brunch. Havent been for any other meal. Its always delicious. My boyfriend has tried everything on the menu. I get the liver pate to take home, as I love it!!!
