Pull up a seat at a bar that’s been in that very location since 1903. The Alberta Hotel Bar and Kitchen, formerly Tavern 1903, offers up delicious food and drinks with a touch of history. The bar has been expertly restored as an ode to the original hotel and now specializes as a cheese bar with typical restaurant fare and cocktails, as well.
Toast Fine Catering’s chef Spencer Thompson opened up Alberta Hotel Bar and Kitchen in late 2015, and it’s received rave reviews for the inspired food and the creative cocktails. Doing something a little different, Alberta Hotel Bar and Kitchen offers savoury duck breast paired with sweet roasted pears, carrot purée and Brussels sprouts.
Inside the historic Alberta Hotel lies a gorgeous space, ideal for a restaurant. It was briefly occupied by Tavern 1903 but is now home to the Alberta Hotel Bar + Kitchen. Its prime downtown location, right across from the Shaw Conference Centre, will make it a popular dining destination but its historic value will also draw people in – the massive, old-school urinals are a must-see. The cuisine focuses on local, seasonal ingredients, and the cocktails are just as fancy as the food.
