Myself and 2 colleagues had lunch at District Cafe today. First the server brought us a salad with a 1.5 cm insect (earwig) alive and well on top of the salad. When we asked for something else (obviously) they brought us Chicken Pot Pies. All 3 of us became violently ill within 3-5 hours. I used to love this place.

The Alberta Legislature grounds are another Edmonton Pokémon hotspot. Whether you’re working in a nearby office or trekking Downtown purely to play Pokémon, stop by the District Cafe and Bakery for a refreshment before you tackle the grounds. On hot days, the combination of an iced beverage with the wading pools at the Legislature grounds will keep you calm and cool for maximum poke-productivity.

Originally a coffee shop, District has recently transformed from serving coffee and snacks into a fantastic café. Offering food morning, noon and night, District serves up stellar items like rice pudding and steel cut oats for breakfast; orzo salad and pot pies for lunch and oysters, roasted eggplant and patatas bravas for dinner. What wins me over, however, is their ever-changing and interesting popcorn flavours like bacon fat and maple syrup or duck fat and orange.

Located smack dab in the middle of downtown, District Coffee Co is a haven for caffeine addicts. They serve up fantastic Americanos, cappuccinos and lattes, plus brewed coffee. Sample some of their fresh, house-made muffins, scones or cookies, and you’ll never want to leave. District Coffee Co is coffee connoisseur Nate Box’s follow-up to the popular Elm Café. But District is open longer, and actually has space to sit, making it the best choice if you like to linger while you sip your coffee.
