A couch sits at the entrance of Bamboo Stockroom on Whyte Avenue with several quirky animal pillows piled on one end. A pink silk-screened Chihuahua sits next to a yellow kitten, lending a fun and funky feel that carries throughout the rest of the store’s space.
Unique home décor items, locally-designed clothing and baby accessories decorate the space. On one wall, a pink bicycle hangs upside down from its wheels, providing the perfect hanger for some unique shirts. Meanwhile, a vintage-looking cabinet occupies another wall, full of baby moccasins, tiny towels wrapped like lollipops, and mini socks.
Bamboo Stockroom is an off-shoot of co-owner Kyla Kazeil’s first clothing store, Bamboo Ballroom, located just a little further down Whyte Avenue. “We originally were going to move [Bamboo Ballroom] into this new space because we thought the rent might go up," says Kyla. "Then, our landlord kept our rent the same, so we decided to stay and had a second space.”
Two of Edmonton’s most stylish & successful businesswomen own this new little gift shop on Whyte Avenue. Kyla Kaziel and Anastasia Boruk are huge supporters of local designers (check out their sister store Bamboo Ballroom for proof) and they have made sure to stock their latest store with more local love. One of my favourite baby gifts to give and receive are baby moccasins. Bamboo Stockroom carries Edmonton designer Dear Deer's adorable mocassins, ranging from newborn to toddler sizes. Other equally cool lines are Ole Ole, Areaware and Good Husbands Apparel.
If novelty decor and home goods are what you’re looking for, you will want to stop by Bamboo Stockroom. A sister store to Bamboo Ballroom, which carries clothing and accessories, Bamboo Stockroom focuses more on home and lifestyle goods. From quirky decor accessories and gadgets to beautiful candles and artwork, Bamboo Stockroom is sure to have something that will catch your eye. As well, like their sister store, they appreciate local talent and carry Edmonton made goods from artisans such as Fringe and Feather, Justine Ma and Oliver Apt. Yay for supporting local!
This delightful offshoot of its sister store, The Bamboo Ballroom, carries lots of fun home décor items, including gorgeous candles. You’ll find beautiful tins filled with sweet, spicy and savoury smelling waxes on the shelves, hidden amongst essential oils, jewellery, handmade catnip toys, candlestick holders and BroBrick soaps for men.
