Given Edmonton’s reputation for eclectic music, as well as world-class festivals dedicated to folk, jazz and blues, it’s no surprise that the Acoustic Music shop fits the bill for musicians seeking instruments for a variety of unplugged genres.
Store owner Rod West believes that the store’s focus on catering to a specific market distances his business from the rest of music retailers in town. “The acoustic thing encompasses a large variety of instruments,” says Rod, whose store stocks a wide variety of acoustic guitars, drums and instrument accessories in its Whyte Avenue location. “We have a few electrical instruments, but we’re not a hard rock store. There are lots of those around.”
