Meet the owner

It’s not just about learning how to read and play music at Bow Valley Music School. “Our idea is to create complete musicians,” says owner and teacher Erin Ross. “We’re not interested in just learning the most recent pop song or just learning skills through songs but being able to sing and play a song, play a classical piece and a jazz song.” Erin and partner, Shane Roberts established the music school in 2011, teaching exclusively at their students’ homes all over the city. Shane teaches electric bass while Erin teaches classical and electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele and voice lessons. Four other instructors offer lessons on piano, violin, bass guitar and upright bass. “We want to make sure kids can jam with a band, improvise and read all kinds of music,” says Shane. “They get a bit of everything.”

    My son has been going to Bow Valley for 7 years and Shane is fantastic! Shane switched up the music selection from classical to contemporary and even brought in different guitars for my son to try. It wasnt just about technique but also music appreciation and exploration. My son has had a lot of fun.
